Tapping out

I got a couple of tattoos done a few weeks ago.
It was a special offer.
I tapped out, because the place was absolutely freezing and I couldn't sit in the cold anymore.

Anyway went back today to get one finished and she asked for more money.
I'm really annoyed as when I left the session no mention was made.
Nor when she double checked the other day was I still coming.

So am if you pay upfront that should be the whole cost even if it means you have to come back.
Or it's by session.

Hmm new needles having to be used and extra time that couldn't be booked for someone else

Mabelface · 22/02/2024 12:52

Per session is usual.

I've never tapped out before and o lying reason I did was because the place was like an ice box

Also she still should have told me before I left. I would have picked a different day as I wanted more work done by her but it's just gone awkward

Mmm if it was a special offer then now you're using a full price slot to finish it, through your own choice...I think I'm on her side, and I would definitely not have assumed.

I did send her a message and she never answered.
I just think she should have mentioned it.

Probably - I find tattooists not always great at communicating like a business should. I would have just assumed it'd have to be paid for though.

IggOrEgg · 22/02/2024 15:03

Sounds like she could’ve communicated better perhaps but honestly that sounds as I would expect. Different day, different session, extra cost. If it were her who stopped and wanted to continue another time, it’d be different but it was your choice.

I understand that but I think the onus was on her to let me know the price before I booked again.
I would have booked a different day and got some more tattoos done. Plus being crap at communication is not really a good excuse for not letting the clients know.
In any other job it's not acceptable so why should it be any different for tattoo artist

Always by session that's the norm sorry and if you do end up calling it short that's on you not the tattooist it sucks but they have a living to make as well and costs.

If you plan on getting more at a later date my advice would be book shorter sessions so that you can break it up and go back a few days later to finish up better than booking a full day to then having to tap out half way through the session or with a hour or two left to go saves you money and allows the tattooist to book another client after you

On a side note did you complain or mention about it being cold? Because I wouldn't have been too happy either about being freezing all day.

I get there has to be a happy medium and you wouldn't want to be sat in the shop with the heating blasting etc for both you as the customer and the tattooist working but if it was truly cold surely that's not right either.

My tattooist is super friendly offers coffee tea drinks etc comfy environment and everything's discussed about costs etc so don't feel shocked about any hidden fees.

Is this someone you've used in the past or a new shop you stumbled across? I think it's always worth doing research into the tattooist and shop before committing to make sure everything is as it should be and that you and them feel comfortable.

She knew about the cold,I told her.
First time I've been, shop had good reviews.
I know there has to be a medium,I only tapped out because of the cold.
Not pain or the session was too long.

I think she should have told me at the end of the first session

It’s not her fault you tapped out, you paid for a slot, you didn't use the time but they couldn’t book anyone else in in that time

so yes of course you have to pay for another slot

DoYouWantToStartACultWithMe · 23/02/2024 09:03

I suppose it's like anything else... if you chose to walk out halfway through a haircut you wouldn't expect to waltz back in a week later and have them do it for free.
