Not for this exact tattoos but for a similar size, style, placement etc?

I know that it varies between artists and am planning to go in and talk to a few but would like and idea of costs before I do.

Thanks so much

Shamelessly bumping in the hope that the illustrated people come out in the evenings.

I pay by the hour. It was 35 quid the last time and I would expect that to take more than 2.

gamerchick · 17/05/2023 20:19

Some places charge by the piece though. It's impossible to say. You'll need to get quotes. I'd probably look at around 250 quid in the back of my mind though.

Pepperlypue · 17/05/2023 20:20

Hey! Most of my tattooist friends charge between £70 & £120 an hour.
I reckon that size etc would be at least half a day so at minimum I’d say around £280 to £400.

I’ve never ever had a tattooist only charge £35 per hour.
10 years ago my tattooist was charging 70 an hour 😅

TiredOfCleaning · 17/05/2023 20:20

Does it also vary by location? So London tattoo artists more expensive etc? (Have no idea but curious)

littlemousebigcheese · 17/05/2023 20:20

About £400 I think

I would definitely say it varies on location.
im up north (Yorkshire) and 70+ per hour seems to be the most normal around here.

justmyluck1234 · 17/05/2023 20:23

I will vary depending on whereabouts you live and the experience of the tattoo artist. I would say around £250-£350

gamerchick · 17/05/2023 20:24

Guess I'm lucky then...

WithRosesAroundTheDoor · 17/05/2023 20:25

I'm in Yorkshire. I meant to mention that as I expected it to vary by area.

Thanks for all of the replies so far. Interesting range of prices.

35 quid?!? Have I taken a time machine back a few decades? I'd not trust anyone to give me a tattoo who charged so little. You get what you pay for.

WithRosesAroundTheDoor · 17/05/2023 20:29

My BIL's entire back piece was £250 and is beautifully done but the artist was new and building up their portfolio.
They moved to Aus or I would have gone to them.

Hundreds. £80 per hour is norm for where i live x

lostat · 17/05/2023 20:31

£300-400 I would guess

Whichwhatnow · 17/05/2023 20:31

My siblings are both tattooists and charge (IRC) about £80 per hour for a ready made design (flash) or a set rate per piece that works out at a slightly higher rate overall if they need to design an original piece for you, or if it's a coverup as that tends to be more complex. In Bristol.

gamerchick · 17/05/2023 20:31

Ok then 🙄i wouldn't go anywhere else.

Only complaint I have is it take months to get a sitting.

Whichwhatnow · 17/05/2023 20:34

£35 per hour is incredibly cheap! Most places around here have a fixed minimum of around £50 at least, or their standard hourly rate, regardless of whether it's a really quick ten min job like a name or basic little star or whatever. Otherwise it's just not worth their while!

I don't suppose that you are anywhere near me? I would be really interested as it seems to be someone that you are happy with and at a bargain price. 🙂

Thank you for the average hourly rates. It's just working out how long it is likely to take now.
It's a cover up and I'm keen to have an idea before I go as it has been offered as a gift but I don't want to move forwards with it if the cost is going to be astronomical as I know that the giver would feel obligated now that they have offered.

Artists in my area that are actually good and not churning out shit, would prob be around £450. I normally pay about £90 an hour when I have work done.

GlitteryFarts · 17/05/2023 20:49

Id say 300-400 for that size.

MaMisled · 17/05/2023 20:52

I'd say £300 to £350

ditavonteesed · 17/05/2023 21:05

I would reckon about 350 and I would be very cautious to pay less than that. Good tattoos aren't cheap.

You should look at houses!

Thanks all for the estimates.
I really appreciate all of your help.

I'm in a little town in the north east. Bit of a trek from you I think.

At least you have an idea when you get quotes going from your thread. Enjoy. Grin
