Weeping Tattoo

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 16/08/2021 20:21

I had a lower back tattoo yesterday and it keeps weeping and leaving ink stains on everything. I tried covering it with cling film but that made it worse as it got so hot and sweaty! Does anyone have any suggestions what I can do and also how long this will last? Thanks

That doesn't sound right. I kept the cling film on mine for about an hour or so but it was quite dry & starting to scab when I took it off.

OldTinHat · 16/08/2021 20:27

Definitely doesn't sound right. Are you keeping it creamed up?

JanisJ · 16/08/2021 20:28

All of mine have been like this, especially legs. My calf and thigh leaked a lot of plasma and ink after being wrapped overnight.

I've been to several different artists and they've says this is normal. It's worse in sweaty hot weather though. It should have completely stopped after 3-4 days and started scabbing. I never got this on back or torso though.

Mine was really wet when I took the cling film off and was the same when I recovered it so I've tried letting the air get to it today.

I've been using the cream the tattooist gave me (Butterluxe) although I'm finding it doesn't spread easily so I don't know if the rubbing is aggravating it. Although it hasn't started scabbing yet it looks absolutely fine, it's not red or hot.

Thanks for the links

Tattoos do leave marks initially as the body is healing. Keep it clean but don't wrap it in cling film.

After a couple of days it should dry and not leaving marks.

I've ruined several bedding sets after a new tattoo

JanisJ · 16/08/2021 20:38

Oh it's Pink!

Is it a Harry tattoo?

Yes mine have been weepy several times. I've been told it's completely normal, especially in hot weather. Does the tattoo have black shading? They do sometimes hammer the ink in, and when it weeps it looks like you're losing lots, but it'll be ok. It sounds like you're doing the right stuff. I'd definitely keep wrapping it overnight for now to save your bed sheets, and don't get it too wet when you wash it.

Bitterman · 16/08/2021 20:39

Clean it every four hours and only cover it at night while ita still seeping.
After two or three days you can move from the thicker creams to other good moisturising creams and keep it light so you don't suffocate it. A tattoo is still a wound and has to heal from the inside out so keep it clean, keep it moisturised and try not to scratch or bang it.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 16/08/2021 20:43

No, it's not Harry although I did think about it! It's three roses to cover up some very wonky stars and paw prints. I actually don't like it but I'm hoping it'll grow on me when its finished!

Yesterday I had the black outline down and the centre rose shaded in pinks. It's the black that's leaving it's mark everywhere. It's too late for the bedding but thankfully it's the same set that I spilt nail varnish over!

Yeah black ink and blocks of shading is always really weepy on me. I got a big calf one when we had the heatwave and i couldn't believe how much ink came out overnight, but I got washed the sheets and it came out!

The first few days are the worst when it's sore and leaking.

In a few days it'll scab and then you can switch to complaining about the itching 😂 I hate the scab stage.

Is Harry well?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 16/08/2021 20:53

That's good to know that it might come out! I'm back in the office on Wednesday so I'm hoping it's behaving itself by then - I didn't bother with trousers today but I don't think I'll get away with it in public!

Harry's good thanks. We had a scare in May when we found out he's got a kidney stone but he seems to be fine thankfully.

Now for the embarrassing question - which Litter Tray cat is your furry overlord? I'm wracking my brains (it doesn't take long!) and I can't remember!

Ha, that's the problem with having tattoos and having to wear clothes. Go for a baggy dress!

Good to know Harry is doing ok, he's such a little trooper! I love when I notice updates on him.

I've name changed lots over the years (outed once, MIL and colleagues on here) but we've chatted before! I have a ginger boy nicknamed DangerCat Wink

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 16/08/2021 21:04

I don't tend to wear dresses as my legs are better hidden in trousers! I'll have a look tomorrow and see what I've got.

I know exactly who you are and I for some reason I did wonder if you were Danger Cat's slave! How is he doing?

Harry really picked his time with the kidney stone - 2 days before we were due to go on holiday! We ended up going a day later as neither of us wanted to leave him but he was fine, other than the indignity of being shaved for a scan!

Oh god I think I remember seeing that! What a nightmare when you're going on holiday. Poor boy, the kidneys are a bugger for older cats. Glad he's doing better now, do they think it's gone?

Our DC is good thanks! No huge dramas this year thank god. He seems to be settling into old age and just likes to sunbathe on various sheds in our street.

(I actually got a tattoo of him recently, I'll Dm you a pic tomorrow when I'm on my laptop!)

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 16/08/2021 21:32

We were told 4 or 5 years ago that he had early CKD but it seems to have progressed quite slowly thankfully. Then again it was the same vets that told me he was dying of heart failure when he had a grade 1 murmur so I don't know how accurate that was!

The kidney stone was a good one. Apparently it's quite rare in cats so I wasn't really surprised Harry would have one. He's got to go for blood tests in November so we'll know if the stone has gone then. Fingers crossed. He's as right as rain in himself though, learning to meow like a Bengal after taking lessons from the furry bastard next door!

I'd love to see the DC tattoo! I would love one of Harry but this was a cover up so wouldn't be dark enough, and also it had to cover a lot of my lower back (it's bigger than I was expecting hence me not liking it!) and it might have been a bit much to have a massive Harry peering over the top of my jeans!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 19/08/2021 16:36

Just to update, the weeping stopped by Tuesday morning and yesterday the itching started. OMG I want to scratch my back to pieces! Not only that, I'm peeling like a like a snake shedding it's skin!

OP posts:
Noahwi · 20/08/2021 16:15

Try a cream, it may help.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 20/08/2021 21:26

I've used Palmer's cocoa butter today and it seemed to have eased it a bit. Mind you, I had a problem with one of my cartilage piercings today so that took my mind off the tattoo!
