How much?

I know that it’s a bit like asking how long is a piece of string but how much would you expect to pay for a tattoo that took a whole day to complete?

I haven’t had a new tattoo for many years but I’ve been following someone on Facebook would does the most amazing work. I contacted them recently and got a quote of £800 a day. I was a little shocked but is that to be expected for an artist with a following of over 25K?

The ones I've been to are roughly £80 per hour but I suppose it depends how in demand the artist is so they can basically set their own prices

£800 for the whole day sounds about right to me from a reputable tattoo shop

dementedpixie · 10/09/2019 14:46

And how many hours do they mean for a full day?

HildaOgdensRollers · 10/09/2019 15:50

Thank you for replying.

Dementedpixie - they didn’t specify how long they classed as a full day but did insinuate that they could finish a medium ish tattoo in that time.

Judging by the fact that the tattooist seems to have a long waiting list they seem to be very much in demand.

I’ll just have to start saving my pennies I guess 😁

What size were you looking for? My last one took about 2 hours - it's on my shoulder blade

Dementedpixie - that is lovely!

I’m thinking of something roughly A5 size.

Standard charge is £80 - £100 an hour round our way.

Thanks for the feedback folks. Sounds like £800 for a full day isn’t too outrageous 😁

£800 for a full day seems excessive. You have to bare in mind most artists days are maybe 5/6 hours actually tattooing. You can easily find places at £60 an hour but I’d suggest following a few near you on fb and watching what they post. On many occasions you’ll see they have a cancellation or offer and can go as little as £200 for the day

3 atm. Not planning on getting more but you never know, when I transitioned to female I had none so it was nice to be able to get what might be regarded as feminine tattoos.
I have a rose on my ankle a flower bracelet round my upper arm and flowers in the small of my back

That sounds right for a decent artist with a good portfolio and experience. A full day is around 6-8 hours. My shin cost me £260 and took 3 hours is all in black and from an artist who hasnt had many years of portfolio building but its a fantastic piece.

Scottishlassie81 · 01/09/2020 14:13

I had one done this past weekend and as it only took about 30 mins and it was £50. The hourly rate in the shop is £90 though.

I have had a full day session and was charged about £400, full colour half sleeve. I think the day rate is usually less than a calculation of the hourly rate as they will price up the 'job' rather than just 7 x £90 or a decent artist will.

IvyEf · 01/09/2020 14:25

Sounds a lot but if you love the artist it's a piece of art that's literally going to be with you for life!
Assume the price includes them designing and drawing it up etc? Must be huge op!!

Mine cost £850 for 8 hours work
