I’m hoping to go and get my first tattoo tomorrow on my foot but I’m then camping for two days afterwards. Will I be ok I’m trainers etc? Really want it!!

No you won't be ok in trainers, or mud you have to keep it really really clean.

DdJames · 01/06/2018 18:40

It really depends on size and location. I had one on the front/side of my foot and there was no way I could have worn trainers after 2 days- was probably a good week before I could. The swelling and pain in general was awful.

I love it though and will at some point get the other foot done at some point!

BarryTheKestrel · 01/06/2018 18:42

I personally wouldn't. You need to avoid rubbing it as much as possible in those first few days. I wore flip flops for about 2 weeks after my foot tattoo. My foot also swelled a bit and I wouldn't have been able to wear trainers if I tried.

You also do need to be able to clean it really well whilst it's healing and keep it clean. Camping really isn't the right environment.

A tattoo anywhere else and you could probably get away with it if you were camping somewhere with showers or a way to clean it well. A foot tattoo, I really really wouldn't.

I have one on the top of my foot and I would never have worn trainers in the first week slip ons to get back and forth to work / shop and barefoot at home / in the office. It needs time to heal.

Clean, dry, no rubbing, regular washing, moisturising.

Camping sounds the opposite of that for a foot (and I'd be hesitant about anywhere else too tbh, as I known friends who have had to take horse pills for infected tattoos, even with extremely scrupulous aftercare...)

I haven whole foot tattooed and had to get it done in the summer when I could wear flip flops. It’s a bugger to keep clean and away from rubbing.

Definitely no trainers!

BeeFarseer · 01/06/2018 19:01

Fuck no. You can either go camping, or get a foot tattoo. You can't do both.

I have a foot tattoo. I had to wear flip flops for two weeks and my feet got grimy just from walking around a city on the pavement. It's so important to keep it clean, there's no way you'll manage while camping!

What's the rush? You'll have the tattoo for life, so best to do it properly. Smile

ElspethFlashman · 01/06/2018 19:03

Fuck no, it's a really really bad idea. It's flip flops or nothing.

Icantstopeatinglol · 01/06/2018 21:42

Ok, totally get what you’re saying. If I wear flip flops I should be ok? If I keep it covered with cling film?

....and when I say camping, it’s kind of glamping! Electric hook up, inflatable beds, bell tent.....I’m not one for totally roughing it!

I had a foot tattoo and wore trainers again immediately. It is just writing though, not massive. It was covered, so still clean.

I couldn’t stand having anything touching it so had to wear shoes that didn’t rub. I also found that my foot swelled up the next day so had to take it a bit easy with walking too much

Icantstopeatinglol · 01/06/2018 21:53

Mines only small really and just writing too.

You're usually only meant to keep cling film on for a few hours. Check with your artist.

Even if you're glamping it doesn't sound like the sort of environment conducive to good tattoo aftercare.

FindoGask · 02/06/2018 20:03

I had a tattoo on my foot yesterday. It's quite big though - covers most of the top of my foot, and goes up to mid-shin. It's a bit swollen today but not hugely so. I wore trainers for most of the day but now I'm in slip-ons.

I wouldn't want to be in flip-flops in a field though.

Thanks for all the advice. Couldn’t get it done anyway as we were going to a drop in and they only had a few spaces. Looks like fate intervened! Booked in for a few weeks time!
