Do you "look" tattooed

And are people shocked when they realise you have tattoos.

Yep.

ineedamoreadultieradult · 16/04/2018 20:09

I think people over about 40 would be shocked to realise I had tattoos (my parents friends have all been shocked when I've told them) anyone younger than that seems more surprised if you don't have any. In my experience anyway.

Suzidean · 16/04/2018 21:27

Yes, I think it's because I am a slightly introverted. And always seen to be doing the 'right' thing, what ever that means!

dustarr73 · 17/04/2018 07:58

I find it funny going into tattoo shops. And they automatically think its my first tattoo.I dress normal, no piercings.

Their attitudes determine whether i get my tattoo done there or not

I'm the opposite to you dustarr73, people would probably expect me to have tattoos because of the way I dress and the fact that I have loads of piercings. I only have 3 small tattoos at the top of my arms though.

FindoGask · 20/04/2018 05:23

I don't particularly dress to show off my tattoos, and a lot of the time - at work - I deliberately dress to hide them, so people are sometimes shocked, yes. I don't look particularly 'alternative' in any other way either, which seems to add to the confusion.

MaitlandGirl · 20/04/2018 05:34

In winter you’d never know just how much ink I’ve got (full back piece, both sides of my rib cage, both legs are fully covered from hip to ankle and both feet are tattooed) and I like it that way.

I do get strange looks wandering around the tattoo shows and competitions until the clothes start coming off and it’s much more obvious why I’m there.

I want to get more ink but I’m not sure if I’m ready for the commitment of visible tattoos all year round.

DextroDependant · 20/04/2018 05:42

I am a quiet geeky accountant with no visible tattoos when dressed. People are surprised to know I have 9 some of which are fairly large.... thigh, back , hip etc

uggmum · 22/04/2018 08:07

I had my first tattoo when I was 46. I now have 5.

People are always surprised when I say I have tattoos.

I have a large watercolour flower tattoo done my left side from bra line to knicker line.

A smaller one of my right side which is a dandelion with the stamens turning into birds, also in watercolour

2 birds on a line on the left side of my lower back.

A flower on my foot.

Lastly a beaver on my arse.

All hidden under clothing.

TorviBrightspear · 13/05/2018 14:23

I think people are a bit surprised when they realise I have tattoos. I do look a bit mumsy, but then you see their faces when the spot the tat I've got just above my inner wrist on one side. The rest are usually hidden under my clothes.

Mind you, I have several ear piercings (not always seen), and when not at work generally wear jeans/band shirt and play metal in the car. Yet it still surprises some.

BeyondPink · 13/05/2018 14:25

Mine generally show, so they give the game away a bit Grin

dustarr73 · 15/05/2018 12:17

I find because i dont dress "out there" they are sometimes shocked.Especially when you go to a tattoo shop, and they ask if its your first one.

I have one on my wrist, people probably assume it's the only one I've got.

SlaughteredChicken · 15/05/2018 20:21

I'm a middle class, middle aged consultant. I love watching people's jaws hit the floor when they see photos of my ink. I don't tell many people Grin

slippynips · 15/05/2018 20:42

No I definitely don’t. I have a tattoo on each wrist and one behind my ear. All can be covered (long sleeves and hair worn down) but I would only actually cover them for a job interview. And that annoys me that my CV could be irrelevant if the person interviewing doesn’t like tattoos and they were visible. Should have absolutely no bearing, just like hair colour/style but unfortunately I think it still does

Onthebrink87 · 26/08/2018 13:02

I love to hear about people's perceptions! I was told that I'm 'fun, free and easy' because braless/small boobs/nipple piercings! I am in fact socially awkward, have panic disorder and slightly prude and extremely shy!

NicoAndTheNiners · 26/08/2018 13:33

I have no visible tattoos when normally dressed but have a nose piercing so probably don’t surprise people if they find out.

And when I got my nose done the piercer assumed it was my first piercing and was suprised when I told him I had my VCH done! Grin

Justwaitingforaline · 26/08/2018 13:39

None of my tattoos are visible and people are often quite shocked to see that I have them! I deliberately got them in places you wouldn’t see if I was wearing a pair of trousers and a 3/4 length shirt - they’re personal to me and I didn’t want them being a topic of conversation!

Those who have seen them ( like on my wedding day) were surprised but very complimentary Smile

BlancheM · 26/08/2018 13:57

I don't know. Tattoos aren't very provocative anymore though are they, it's probably more unusual to have none.

whatthelump · 03/11/2018 22:46

I have 30+ and when I'm dressed you wouldn't know.

When I went to a tattoo shop recently they asked if it was my first tattoo. When I said I have a few they were like, this is quite big will you manage until I showed them 😂

Also went to meet new people recently, friends on Facebook, but haven't spoken or anything (husbands work together in new area)
She wore a top covering a small tattoo on her arm as she was worried what I would think until I showed up in a dress with my legs covered in ink 😂

MumUnderTheMoon · 19/11/2018 12:28

When I only had a few tattoos people were shocked when the realised I had them often saying I didnt "look the type". I have a lot of them now, (full sleeve, knuckles, a lot of my legs and my back) my mum and I went to a spa last year, my mum had her appointment first, when the girl, who had worked with my mum, came to get me; she saw me, stopped dead in her tracks and said "my goodness I wouldn't have thought she belongs to you" to my mum. I don't really care to be honest as I've gotten used to people voicing their opinions but when my mum looks at me she doesn't see the tattoos, just her daughter, so she was a bit bemused.

fantasmasgoria1 · 21/11/2018 09:49

I'm a goth so people assume I must have at least one! I have them in my arms , small chest piece and upper back. They are all able to be hidden when needed!
