Kavee Cage

unfortunately one of our lovely Guinea pigs died last week so we have a solo female approx age 4. She seems quite happy and is having lots of extra attention so although I always said we would rehome a solo Guinea pig we have said we won’t do thar as long as she gets lots of attention and is okay. So far so good. However, I am thinking we need to bring her indoors (she’s outside whilst it’s warm but in the winter they had a shed but it’s too isolated for her on her own). I’m looking at the Kavee Cages. Does anybody have one & can give any reviews. There are generic ones on Amazon but reviews are mixed. Thanks

We have the branded one for our two boy guinea pigs and it works well. I got the rugs from them directly and they’ve washed and worn well for 3 winters with no issues.

We bought generic C&C cages but the bases from Kavee as DD wanted the lilac base. We bought washable fleeces from amazon which have been going 4 years or so so far. And bathmats for the kitchen area.

@TeenToTwenties are the generic ones quite sturdy? We have cats who actually don’t both with the Guinea pigs but you never know

They seem sturdy. The one we bought off Amazon was supposedly for box shelving.
We don't have a lid on ours, I presume you would if you have a cat however?

Ah that’s so cute! Yes we will definitely get a lid. We are just looking at candcguineapigcages.co.uk they seem
quite reasonable.

We used the generic shelving ones for Amazon like these - https://amzn.eu/d/0cU9tU50

I tied them together with cable ties/velcro cable ties because the circle connectors seemed less secure than cable ties.

I made a base out of corrugated floor protector from Wickes - https://www.wickes.co.uk/Protec-ProplexRE-Trade-Surface-Protection-Sheet---2400-x-1200-x-2mm/p/118670?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=PMAX%20Shopping%7C%7CMonthly%20Event&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=18152672157&gbraid=0AAAAADs4IsbIdUzAYr_hNx2x6N0zh5iXJ&gclid=Cj0KCQjw9ZLSBhCcARIsAEhGKgOy_tTpRMFMec-6asKDhKnavI0N4htvwT_h1IfEqiVCaRDxadsKwrMaAuFZEALw_wcB folding and taping the corners so it is waterproof.

I use Ikea fleece blankets and bath mats for absorbency and softness.

The branded cages are great, but it is an expensive way of reaching the same end product!

It's really cruel to keep pigs on their own. They are herd animals and can be really stressed alone. Do you know that it's illegal in Switzerland to keep them on their own? Wish the UK had better animal welfare laws!

hby9628 · 01/07/2026 21:01

@HappyAsASandboy that’s great info about be Ikea blankets thank you. I need to pop there so I’ll grab some.

@BotterMon i didn’t know that about Switzerland. We are animal lovers, if she is seems unhappy we will absolutely rehome her but she will be in a social area of the house so im hoping that won’t be the case.

We used the same caging as @HappyAsASandboy you need to count how many panels you need. We bought extra which was still cheaper than kavee and then we had them for when we gave them their extension.
