Where to get a rabbit from?

I'm shortly going to be in the market for a new rabbit or two, to hopefully bond with my older female whose husbun we are going to have put to sleep soon due to eye disease (ulcer not healing and he is v. old).

I've had rabbits for 15 years but can't get any rescues to accept me because I have two older cats and allow the rabbits to roam in the same space as the cats (no option! But the cats have lived with rabbits forever and are scared of them).

I don't want my remaining bun to be lonely though. I've even started looking at breeders and I HATE that I'm doing that.

So any pointers about how I should approach finding a new bun?

I was going to say a rescue...

It might be worth looking around anyway. Some rescues are less strict than others.

Otherwise Pets At Home have adoptees, try them.

Also if you are adopting, check its a foster to adopt agreement, in case new bun doesn't get on with existing bun. At least then you can return the new one (regretfully) rather than be stuck with trying to accommodate two separately.

It is so annoying isn’t it! We have a beautiful set-up with a walk-in run and a huge grass run but our local rescue would not let us have a pair of bunnies because we have a very young child and no experience of bunnies. It made me feel really sad since the rescues are always saying there are two many bunnies!

We ended up adopting from someone privately by word of mouth, because the owner had a chronic illness and needed to find her bunnies a new home. It was just luck that a mutual friend put us in touch.
