Today we adopted Albert a 7 month old guinea pig to, hopefully, eventually bond with our lone boar; one of the boys passed away before Christmas and we didn’t like the idea of the other being on his own. Going to take the bonding process very slowly.

CUTE! Be happy Albert.

Hello and Welcome, Albert. Lovely chunky boy. May the bonding go well.

EndorsingPRActice · 24/03/2026 18:27

He looks lovely. My 2 female piggies are currently absorbed in their dinner and have forgotten that they are in a mood with each other, probably hostilities will resume (they never go further than teeth chattering) once the food bowl is empty. Good luck with the bonding.

He's gorgeous! I love Guinea Pigs!

Pollqueen · 24/03/2026 18:36

I absolutely love guinea pigs, really miss having young DC as we always had a couple when kids were at home. Has Albert settled with your existing pig, OP?

MoonieDoo · 24/03/2026 18:45

I love guinea pigs, they're the sweetest little things. Enjoy your new home and new friend Albert!

We haven’t introduced them yet but he’s getting very comfortable in his temporary home.

Gorgeous. I love piggies and miss having mine under the stairs. All the squeaking when you open the fridge.

murasaki · 24/03/2026 23:28

Albert is a very guinea piggy name, excellent choice!

Gingybread · 25/03/2026 02:40

Good luck to Albert it’s a great name for an adorable piggy!

Your original boar knows he's there ,yes ! They are very nosy creatures ,
We did bonding over the years but only bonded two boars once when GP2 died and GP1 needed a new cagemate . We got him a piglet , they met at the rescue in neutral territory but on the drive home GP1 was in his travel cage next to me , DD looked after the piglet . GP1 was shredding his newspaper "Where's he gone , I can't have lost him already "

Other bondings we did we washed them in Gorgeous Guinea Shampoo to make them neutral smelling ( didn't with the piglet as he was too little )

They'll need a huge pile of hay and food to occupy them. Grin ( They way to their heart is through their ever expanding stomach )

Albert is a great name BTW , one of DDs boys was called Bert ( she named him on the way home , inspired by dinnerladies )
"Are you Bert?"
"It's Herbert actually but I like to play that down"

TinyMouseTheatre · 04/04/2026 07:02

Albert is so cute. How are things going now OP?

PurpleReindeer2 · 04/04/2026 07:19

Awwww he's very cute. Hope all goes well with the bonding. 🥰

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 04/04/2026 09:57

Well we introduced them in the outside run and Albert got very randy with GP1 so he is going to the vet next week to discuss neutering. He was just relentless and I’m not sure GP1 will be too happy about that. So for now they are still living separately.

Ahh lovely .
Filling their faces with grass is a Bona Fide Boar Bonding Experience Grin

Our young boar/older boar pair went through a few dominance spats when the little guy was about six months and deciding to be The Alpha .
We would wash both in a Lemongrass Gorgeous Guinea or Just4Boars Gorgeous Guinea Shampoo , both sulked in the bath so forgot to be snippy with each other . Then completely clean and replace their bedding , move things about a bit and make sure each had their own hidey house .

Gradually , the older boar just thought "Meh" and the younger one was alpha . ( Young boar was a big Rex so he probably didn't want squished .
