We have a new Syrian Hamster - about 12 weeks old. We haven't had hamsters before but I have done a good amount of research, she has a nice cage and a run which we pop her into for a few hours in the evening. She has only been with us a week and she is just lovely, very friendly and inquisitive - loves exploring!
The only concern I have is: when she hears a loud noise, or sudden movement she startles so badly, she literally jumps about 6cm into the air! Is this normal? Will it continue or fade as she settles in?
Today I was chatting to her in her cage before moving her to the run, I had the side open and she came over to say hello, she was sniffing my hand and put one paw on my finger and then there was a loud noise and she lepat in the air and ended up tumbling down the ramp/steps in her cage to the bottom layer. Now it's not far, and has a massive amount of wood shavings down there so she wasn't hurt but it really worried me!
