Bald hamster

Dds hamster has lost most of his fur. He is just 18 months but this started when he was a year. when it started we took him to the vet where he was treated for mites, even though the vet couldnt find any on the skin tests. We thoroughly cleaned his cage, an ikea deltolf, in case.

The vet said it could be other causes, but as long as he was eating and drinking well, and seemed well in himself not to worry.

Two things are causing us a little concern, one being his skin is quite dry, is there anything we can use on it to help. Google gives such conflicting advice.

The secibd is that it seems a little hair is growing back, so could it be a dietary issue? Again google suggests more protein can be given, but not how much.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

It could be Cushings unfortunately - www.hamstercentral.com/wiki/Cushings_Disease_in_Syrian_Hamsters

Was the vet an exotics specialist? Or are they very used to hamsters? Were possible I only take mine to specialists unless it's an emergency. Normal vets do treat hamsters, but they are a lot smaller than most other pets and they don't always seem clued up on how to treat them.

My second hamster Harry went bald, I cut open a vitamin E capsule ,& massaged the oil in to his skin & put some in with his food, I also used spot on treatment as the vet thought he had mites which caused fur loss. He lived to be a ripe old age of 3.5.
