This is my little Russian hamster Mishka ❤️ his love language is biting! He is about 2 years and 4 months old, but is very sprightly and showing no signs of slowing down. His passions include running and pumpkin seeds

@Muezza Ah he's cute! He's doing well at that age too. I will show DS..he loves Russian Dwarfs. Thanks for posting.

Anyone else got any pics of their hammies?

This is Luna. She’s a year old and loves to eat and play on her wheel as well as trying to chew her way out her cage 😁

I love hammies. Mine are all gone now. I'll see if I can find some pictures.

BooseysMom · 11/09/2022 20:34

@Septembe66 Thanks for posting a pic of your Luna. She looks like a right character! I love it when hammies sit up with their tiny feet held up to their chests. So cute!

Hiya @BooseysMom. Sorry I forgot to post! 🤦

I got them from a rescue so don't judge me on their names! 😄

The black and white one is Joseph. He was a bar chewer. I had to extend the cage so much we had to put shelves up the wall to hold it all! And when he stopped chewing bars, he started on the bottom of the lounge door when out on his evening strolls. I've got a lovely frilly edge to the bottom of the door now. 🙈
This is a picture of him in the treat box! 😏

Flossie was my gorgeous, white girl. She used to disappear under settee and it was several weeks before I realised that she'd chewed through into inside the settee and had built herself a nest, furnished with her favourite treats! Gah. I was so naive.
This is a picture of her playing hide and seek.

I'd love another one but I cried so much when both of these went that I don't think I could face it, to be honest. But I loved my hammies. 🥰

Oh, and I forgot, Flossie was blind but she had an amazing sense of direction. You could put her down anywhere in the lounge, and she'd orientate herself back to her cage (or her nest! 😡 😄) It didn't stop her climbing in her cage or anything like that. She loved to climb. The vet said they have such bad eyesight anyway that it probably didn't make that much difference to her.

Oh no, I've become a hammie bore! 🙊

Luna is a bar chewer too. Wh have been through two cages with bars and extended them with tubes and loads of different toys but still wouldn’t stop. We built her a new home with stuff from ikea my daughter had seen online but she still managed to chew into the corners. Had to reinforce the edges with metal strips and she still managed to get into the wood. Have had to put plastic sheeting around all the corners now too. Seems to have worked thankfully.

Thanks everyone for sending pics and your stories of your hamsters. It's been great hearing about them.

@MarshaMelrose ..Flossie sounds so sweet! I was in pieces as well when our first one died. He was called Mr Saddlebags. He would fall asleep on my chest when I stroked his head! He particularly liked having his ears massaged.

@Septembe66.. We haven't had a cage chewer yet.

@Septembe66 actually that's not true as our first one did try to chew his way out. We bought a Savic Hamster Heaven and he still did it!

This is Rosie 🖤🤍 She's adorable and squeaks loudly for about 5 minutes, every evening when she wakes up! Grin

@NeckFanInSoftPlay thanks for posting a photo of your Rosie. She's so pretty. Her colour and patterns are lovely and unusual.

Here is Hammy. He is a Syrian and apparently around a year old (pet shop was not sure when we bought him). He is very cheeky!

Oh I love this thread! GrinGrin

So many lovely faces! Here is our wee Buzz, a little dwarf hamster we adopted a month ago from our local hamster rescue. He was actually born with all his siblings in the rescue after his mum was handed in so he's super friendly and well handled which is lovely.

I never actually had hamsters as a child but have really enjoyed having them in adulthood (got really into keeping rats and then have had a few hamsters too). A wee photo of our previous ones too... Annabelle, Grace, Darcy, Rosie, Sandy and Sparkle... Blush we've actually been really lucky even though most of them were on their second home with us to have really friendly hamsters, this bitey reputation has somehow not showed itself too much!

I really loved the cuddly wee teddy Syrians, but I love our dwarfs too and enjoying Buzz finding his feet. He's only 11 weeks now so still young!

@LapinR0se Aw, your Hammy is super cute 😍We have a long-haired Syrian called Snowball who looks similar. I'll try and post a photo.

@LikeAnOldFriend Ah thanks for posting those gorgeous photos! Buzz has beautiful colouring and markings. I remember we had a hamster when I was a child but can't recall him now. We did have a gerbil phase I remember more clearly. But hamsters are my favourite. I surprised DS and took him to the pet shop on his birthday and said, do you want a hamster? A big yes was his answer! We got his first one then, a Syrian we named Mr Saddlebags.. I will see if I can post a photo
