Do Guinea pig mites always cause itchy looking red skin? Or could it be fungal infection? Looking at bald patch on Guinea pig

It will very likely be ring worm. Generic thrush/athletes for cream will fix it but it's very contagious so make sure you wash your hands and improve the cage Hygiene

It could be a number of things, you need to see a vet, they can take a skin scraping. I wouldn't put anything on it without knowing the cause. If it is mites then you need to act quickly too.

We took her to local vet and they said probably caused by eye issues but the drops didn't improve it.

Anyway, we luckily have an exotic vet reasonably near so we'll book in there.

Thanks for replying

Just checked exotic vets and they need a referral. Anyway, we'll do what we need to do.

Could be ring worm - our pigs had this when we first got them. Vet gave us some stuff to bathe them in. They hated that...

Previous pigs have had mites, which gave them dry, white, flaky skin, bit like dandruff. They had something for that but it was a very long time ago and I can't remember what they were given.

Any chance you could try a different vet for a second opinion?
