My turtle has died

I have two. Did have two.

I've had them 20yrs and one has just suddenly died. The other one is so distressed without him. I don't know what to do. I want to cuddle him but you can't cuddle an aquatic turtle but he's so distressed being alone.

I'm ridiculously upset and just know the other one will go soon now.

I could always tell them apart but they didn't have names. They are 'The Turtles'.

Just wanted to share that Turtle was the best and gave me hours of happiness.

Sad

20 years, no wonder his little mate is sad too. I’m sorry @OldTinHatFlowers.

I'm really really sorry. He's been a part of your life for a long time and you obviously loved him very much.

I wish there was something I could say that would make you feel better, but I know that no words are ever sufficient.

He was very lucky to have had a long and happy life shared with you and his chelonian buddy and I am very sorry that you are both sad.

Sending you very best wishes. xx Flowers

Thank you. I feel so heartbroken. The pair of them were so daft together, just the best.

I'm sat here watching Other Turtle and it's clear he doesn't know what to do either. Turtle died so suddenly and Other Turtle was stroking his face trying to wake him.

I can't rescue another one to keep him company but appreciate the suggestion. They're yellow bellied sliders and they can't be rehomed, sold or adopted now.

They are so wonderful. I wish I could just cuddle Other Turtle.

Oh stroking his face is such a bittersweet image.

Is the no rehoming/selling etc because they are endangered/protected, @OldTinHat? I know nothing about turtles.

@OldTinHat I'm so sorry for your loss Flowers Its heartbreaking losing a pet but equally sad for the remaining partner. As theses Turtles are highly social, and your remaining one will be incredibly lonely as you're acutely aware, plus it will also have 10-20 years of life left, I would contact this Facebook group to see what they suggest. Company in one way or another is paramount and finding a solution will distract you a little. Its helped me in a similar circumstance. m.facebook.com/Red-Eared-Yellow-Bellied-Slider-Turtle-Rescue-TT-112375343723767/photos/?ref=page_internal&mt_nav=0

Sorry I'm not sure where that group is based, but there must be UK support and specialists.

Sorry to hear about your turtle Flowers

I can watch them for hours. Lovely pets. Could you try somewhere like tropical
World if you feel you would like to rehome him for some company?
