Best hamster cage?

I have made the huge mistake of buying an Omlet Qute for DDs new Syrian hamster. Awful cage - beware!

What is the best thing to replace it with? We don't have a huge space but I definitely want something more practical for both hamster and us (it's sold as easy to clean but it's disgusting, urine leaking out of the lower box etc).

We have a pets at home locally but are there any better brands or something I can order online?

I know this thread hasn't been posted on for a while, but Zooplus don't ship cages to the Uk any more sadly - the best cage available for a Syrian now is the Savic Hamster Plaza - there is a 100cm one and a new 120cm one (which is a much better size). I just got the 120cm one and it's the best hamster cage ever. The Ferplast Criceti 100 is good too but that is top opening only. The Savic Plaza has a big front opening door which makes life easier and easier to interact with the hamster and get them out. Minimum cage size has caught up with Europe now and both the Blue Cross and PDSA now state 100cm x 50cm x 50cm and at least 20cm of bedding. For Syrians and dwarf hamsters. We have a robo in a 100cm cage and it really is a minimum. The Hamster Heaven is "ok ish" but there's not enough space left in it if you put a 12" wheel in. The RSPCA now specify a rat sized wheel as well. The main change is it's now accepted that dwarf hamsters need just as much space as Syrian hamsters. Just because they're smaller doesn't mean they aren't as energetic!

@HazelE123 Great advice. It is an old thread, but there's lots of useful info for new Hamster owners or people who want the best accomodation available. It's a great reminder of what cage sizes are acceptable. There's still some shockingly small accomodation out there and I wish it was illegal to sell.

I have those bedding panels! Cardboard is cheaper. Our hamster had cardboard bedding panels at first (not as glamorous but did the job) except he chewed all the cardboard off ha ha. So got the Viking Laser ones (the same ones that Etsy sells). You can just about see them on the video of the cage (the bolts at the front). If it's ok to post a video?

The panels don't actually fit my new cage completely as they're made for the standard sized Savic Plaza - I have the new really big Savic Plaza! the 120 one (118cm x 64cm!). Which is the best hamster cage I've ever owned :-). However I still used the perspex panels from the old Plaza - it just means there are some gaps in places as the cage is bigger than the panels. No bedding has fallen out yet! The guy who makes them is going to be making them to fit the Plaza 120 as well, when he can get hold of the cage (it's very new). If anyone is interested in getting one, the only place they're available right now is Zoar's Ark (and they don't do delivery as yet) but apparently it will be in "large pet stores" quite soon.

It actually has more floor area than a detolf :-)
