Eglu - are they worth the price tag?

Just that really. Considering the omlet eglu go and I wondered if anyone had any words of wisdom? It does look very easy to clean which I like.

I’ve got one for my chickens. It is super easy to clean, but I’ve never had a wooden one so can’t compare.

What are you planning to keep in it?
I had a look at one for my guinea-pigs ( 2nd hand) but it was still ££ and really small inside .

They are expensive but keeping a wooden hutch clear of red mite is hard work so that is a bonus.

2 Dwarf rabbits. That would have been a useful piece of info to include!

What put me off (apart from the price) was the fact that red mites can hide between the layers of it. I like the way they look though. I bought an Argus one instead.

They’re very small - probably too small for rabbits. I have one for bantam chickens, expensive for what it is but robust, low maintenance etc.

Dwarf as in Netherland, or lop? Drastic difference in size, though to be honest even if Nethies I'd still say not suitable. Check out the Rabbit Welfare Association for decent housing guidance

I would never recommend Eglu for rabbits. Plastic tat.

For rabbits - definitely go for a shed/playhouse attached to an aviary/run, nice and solid wood. No plastic.

Update: went for one lionhead rabbit and the eglu. It's quite big, and very easy to clean. I like the easy access - no frozen bolts or swollen wooden catches. I'm not in the UK and tbh the local alternatives weren't great. The bunny is lovely - so floptastic and loves human attention.

I kept my bunnies in an eglu for a while. They didn’t like it, just used it as a loo! Glad bunny is doing well. They really need their own company too though.

I have the older style eglu for 2 mini lops and thought the size was fine. I had the extended run on it though, and they are only shut in the eglu at night, and also have loose garden play every day.
They are great to clean out and move around the garden, but the run is starting to rust.
Although I’ve got all the covers and the thermal jacket for the eglu, I still keep them in the house in the winter.
