Hamster antics-boredom or stress? And do you trim their nails??

Our dwarf hamster has a big cage (the Savic metro heaven) and has a seasaw, flying saucer, house, platform and big wooden ramp, tunnel, coconut shells, chew things, a hidey hole box thing. He's recently started using his cage like monkey bars at night and stressing out dd who is convinced he must be unhappy. He looks like he's having a great time but she thinks he's bored or stressed. Does anyone have any experience of this please?

Also his nails are very long but he's a skittish little thing and we have no chance of trimming them. Does it bother them to have long nails?

Does he come out to play at all ? I am not a hamster expert but have owned them myself

It is hard to say if he is stressed really. We built a playpen for our hamsters to come out and run around in and also for us to hold them and play with them. We also got a digging tower so they could dig in the sawdust. So they get out 30 mins or so for a play every day.

We never bothered to trim nails but our playpen was on a wooden floor so perhaps running around helped to trim the nails a bit.

Contact your local vet. They will have a nurse that trims small animal claws. Hamsters love to be acrobatic, so don't worry too much about that.

Sorry, it's been mad here and I forgot to replyBlush
He's comes out around lunchtime for a drink and a mooch about then around 9/10pm
He comes out and spends hours in his wheel, sits in his coconut shell, goes up on his platform, dig, burrows, seesaws. And now behaves like a monkey. he's now got a big house climbing frame with swings and stuff.
