One of my guinea pigs has very long hair and it seems to grow in all different directions. I have a brush and brush her daily, she isn’t a fan so it’s a bit of a mission and I’ve had to trim her hair around her legs and bottom due to getting little matts really quickly.

I see these pictures of guinea pigs with soft silky smooth long hair and then wonder if I’m doing something wrong. She looks like she crawled through a hedge backward, albeit a clean hedge! Is it normal for some piggies to have crazy fur or am I supposed to bathe her to get it a bit less wild?

Some pigs do just have that type of hair unfortunately. Is she an abyssanian?
I used to have lots of Guinean pigs and one of them had long rosette hair which was also kind of wirey. I used to cut it short, yes she wasn't going to win any beauty contests but it was so much easier to brush her and keep her cool.

Having had a look at abyssians yes she is. She is almost identical to the attached picture from google, though her hair is even crazier. Her sister has shorter hair but similar hair in all directions.

Awwww yeah that's like the one I used to have. Honestly her hair was that style but would grow about 6 inches. It was insane. Honestly I think keeping it trimmed is the only way to keep on top of it.

We have a Texal like the attached photo but a different colour. Fur gets really long and we have to trim and bath quite regularly

Abby fur isn't very long though - is your piggie a mix of breeds ?
Or maybe one of the more exotic types - like your Peruvians , Silkies, Texels ( I just saw a photo of a piglet Texels Squeee ) , Lunkarya .

There are so many fancy coats now .

I used to have a Peruvian years ago , our last pig was a longish haired , we kept her fur round her rump trimmed .

I do wonder at some of the show guineas which have long clean fur . They often have their fur rolled up in paper rollrs . Do they get to run about in hay . Are they allowed to eat grass till their faces go green? Are they more often in the wash than out ?
The life of a fat lardy smoth seems indylic in comparison Sad
