Growth on hamster - help

Next door have just asked me to look at their hamster.
The growth is dry to touch, with a definate "neck" where it joins the skin, and is fleshy
Hamster is 2 years old, seems lively and alert
Eating and drinking normally
Any idea what it could be and treatment?
I am a cat owner and not overly familiar with hamsters.
Vets, obviously, are emergency only at the moment

That area is where dwarf hamsters have their scent gland. It could be some kind of tumour. A vet might be able to remove it, but if the owners don't want to do that, the treatment would essentially be to monitor the hamster for signs of pain and suffering. Sometimes the hamster will bite and pick at the growth, causing bleeding and infection, and that's when it's time to either operate or put to sleep.

Thank you for that info, I will pass it on. It is life or death only appointments at the vets here, so a case of keep monitoring and look for any changes.
