Guinea neglect

Our neighbours have two guinea pigs kept outside in a hutch. Last year I had to go an have a word with them (very politely - "I'm a bit worried" etc...) as it got to the end of November and they were still outside with no cover on the hutch. A few days later they moved the guineas inside but didn't speak to me for the whole winter.

This year unfortunately, the guinea pigs are still outside with no cover on. It's only 3 degrees and rain is bucketing down. Should I interfere again?

Yes please. If the worst that's going to happen is they don't talk to you 🤷‍♀️

Honestly why do people have pets.

I don’t think I could live with myself if I didn’t. Poor Guineas

One of my neighbours had their dogs outside in the front garden past 8pm last night. It was -1 and they are tiny little dogs.

I knocked on the door and let them know they’d ‘forgotten’ to bring their dogs in. Apparently they were getting fresh air 🙄

Next time I’ll take the dogs myself!

I have done it. Way out of my comfort zone but I can't just ignore it. I'm expecting to not be spoken to but if they bring them in it will be worth it. My guineas came in weeks ago. Not sure why some people bother getting pets. They were a birthday present but the child is bored of them

I had a similar uncomfortable experience , yes it isn't pleasant but could you live with yourself if those fragile little animals perished ?
( I thought "No , I couldn't and hang the consequences " . Better I call someone out on their animal husbandary than put two guineas at risk)

After having them in the house with all the mess that accompanies , they might get fed up (especially if the child owner has lost interest) ........... would they be compatible with your pigs if they offered them to you?

No I couldn't have lived with myself either, that's why I made myself go round there and I'll do it again next year if I need to. Yes if they asked me I would take them off their hands. I don't think I'd be their first choice of person to give them to now though

Give it a month - I loved having the guineas indoors ( we gave them the small bedroom with the radiator off ) but we were all driven barmy by the travelling hay .

Though it was nice in winter knowing they were indoors .

The number of times people said to me "But they come from Peru , it's cold there at night"

My guinea-pigs came from no further than Kent . !
