Our lovely old guinea pig girl lives a life of luxury with 2 young friends, all the hay and parsley she can eat, lovely hutch in the garden in summer, cosy spot in the winter. She's around 6, so doing well for a piggie, still lively and loves cuddles, keeps her young friends in their place, definitely the boss of the hutch!

Over the last month we've noticed that, although she still chitters away socially, she can no longer do the loud "squeeee squeeee squeeee" noise that they make. She tries but all that happens is a breathy sound. She's also got a bit thin round her bum. She doesn't seem upset by not squeee-ing, and I'm sure as I can be that it's part of her ageing. I'm sure the vet wouldn't do anything but I wondered if it was something simple I've missed.? She doesn't have a cold, no discharge, eyes bright, eating normally, normal poo.

Obviously I will now go and take a picture or I will be in trouble!!

Ahh there is something lovely about a veteran piggie Smile
They do get a bit 'rat faced' and pointed as they age .

Are her new younger cagemates squeaky? Maybe she feels now that she doesn't need to do the Food Shout, they'll do it?

When we got our boy , he was the one at Rescue who shouted the loudest and longest for food. He was overtaken by the sows . His current wife is a feisty big girl who tells us all that she's expecting breakfast . In the shed she hears our footsteps long before we reach the door.

If she's still eating, poohing and enjoying life she's most likely just ageing .
Our boar does a really pathetic long loud "whheeeeeekk" when he has to have a bath though. Grin
