I am heart broken , I have just had to give my vets permission to put my 8 yo ferret down .
He has been out of sorts for about a week, sleeping a lot no energy eating about twice as much as normal .
I took him to the vets yesterday evening they kept him in with the plan to do a scan on his tummy and blood test.
The scan reviled a lump on his kidney , a clot in his aorta , and a enlarged heart .
The poor little thing did not stand a chance of surviving so I gave my permission to have him put to sleep while he was still under the anaesthetic that they had used to keep him still while they did the scan .

I'm so sorry. Ferrets are such amazing little characters aren't they? I had to have an 8 year old ferret PTS a while back for similar reasons & it was so sad. He belonged to DS who was heartbroken at losing his little pal. You've done the right thing for your little ferretty friend so he wouldn't suffer, and eight is a really good age for a ferret. It sounds like he had a great life with you. Sending Flowers

Sorry to hear you have had to go through having your DS pal PTS it is so hard even when you know it is the right thing to do .
Just out of interest what did you do with the body ?
All my others that have died / been pts ( over a 10 year span ) have buried in a local nature spot.

We brought him home & buried him in the garden, we have lots of space. He's resting peacefully under an apple tree with his litter brother who died of old age, two dogs, a cat & a gecko.
