GP suddenly died

One of out GPS has died, he seemed fine, but just came home to find him. We have one remaining male. Couple of questions, what's the best way to dispose of him? Im guessing buried in the garden, but wanted to check. Secondly what do we do about the survivor, I don't want to get young ones again, do rescues have older GPS that need homes? Do they make friends easily? Thanks

I’m so sorry we lost one of our girls out of the blue recently.

We buried our girl (in a very deep hole - we have a terrier) but our vet also offered to dispose of her body.

We got a possible companion piggy today.

Yes bury him.
My understanding is that males can only be together if they start off in the same litter.

I have a friend who has successfully bonded her male with another boy.

Sorry to hear of your loss. A deep hole in a quiet corner is fine.
Don't know about rescues, try asking around, at school perhaps?
They can live on their own but are not as happy and not last as long.
Getting a young companion makes the whole GP 'era' more stressful as they don't go together!

When one of ours died suddenly the other followed very soon after. Vet said it's not unusual as they probably had the same virus :(
Buried them both in the garden.

Our gp died a few months ago leaving one boy aged 2 on his own. We got him a baby boar and they've bonded successfully.

Where in the country are you?

AgnesF · 02/08/2018 23:05

This happened to us and a neighbour offered her female guinea pig as a companion. Our boy had the snip and was successfully married off to a long haired lovely.

The neighbour was worried that her girl was a bit old and might not last long - she outlived our boy, was joined by two female youngsters and died peacefully in her bed at the ripe old age of 10+.

If your remaining boy is not too old you could consider giving him a whole new life of lurve. Grin
