Best hamster wheel

We brought our new Syrian home yesterday! He currently has the standard 18cm wheel that comes with the Savic hamster heaven, but I'm looking for a bigger one. I've ordered the Trixie 28cm from Amazon (it had excellent reviews), but I'm having second thoughts about it - mostly about the fact that it's not an 'open' wheel, but has a cover over the front, with holes in it, and I've heard hamsters can get trapped? Can anyone recommend a better one?

Do you mean this one?

We've had this one for years - and three different hamsters - and they've all loved it! It's not really a cover on the front, more like a way of making sure it's stable.

All the best!

Yes, that's it! Good to hear your hamsters have loved it - hope our ham does too Grin

Quite a lot of people more recently have reported that the plastic Trixie wheel is quite noisy. The wooden version is, however, silent after 8 months of use in the Avocado household. www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/small_pets/accessories/exercise_wheels/609617

I used to have a 'silent spinner' wheel. If the hamster will be living anywhere near where you sleep, I recommend one!!! I had a hamster while I was at uni and he lived in my bedroom and oh my lord was he annoying at night! Loved him to bits though. Got him a silent spinner and the problems were mostly solved. Except when he chewed on the bars because he wanted to come out and play at 3am. Grin

I have the Karlie Wonderland - wooden wheel and it's silent. I got the cork lined version and sanded the edges with very fine sandpaper as there were a couple of rough bits.

Trixie do a cheaper version which could be worth a try. I paid £20 for the Karlie 3 years ago.

Oh that wooden one looks lovely! I don't mind noise too much - We sleep on a different floor of the house. Our last hamster had the noisiest wheel ever, but even that was inaudible from the bedrooms. Thank god for modern soundproofing Grin
