Any hamster experts about?

We bought a hamster just over a week ago and she seemed to settle really well - sleeping all day in her wood shavings, playing at night etc.

For the last couple of days however she has been awake almost constantly, she naps during the day for a short time and spends a lot of time chewing the bars. She has chew toys and cardboard but prefers the bars. She does go on her wheel .

She seems quite skittish, doesn't like my hand in the cage at all.

Any advice?

Forgot to say she doesn't sleep in the word shavings anymore - she curls up on the platforms or sleeps in her food bowl Confused

Aaahhhhhh!! I wouldn't worry she may just like the food bowl!! Hamsters in our family never really liked being extracted from cages but you need lots of handling so they get used to you.
We had a girl hamster that was 'ripped' she would climb up tonthe roof of her cage and spend hours gnawing the bars (rodent means 'the gnawing one') she was so fit and good at climbing - wasn't a wheelie fan either - she looked like she was doing pull ups all the time lol!!
