Which rabbit breed advice please.

We are thinking of getting a pair of bunnies and wondered if anyone with experience could guide us towards right breed for our circumstances. Two young children, docile dog, and lots of time for love. Are there breeds which are hardier than others and suffer with less health problems? There's too much info online I can't get my head round all the rabbit forums etc. Thank you!

Rabbits with rounded faces are sometimes more likely to get dental issues and rabbits with uppy ears are less likely to get ear problems. Rex's can have congenital heart problems and the giants often live shorter lives and have more issues like arthritis.

But other than that breed makes very little difference to the characteristics of rabbits. You need a pair of friendly outgoing buns and for that I suggest rescue as their temperaments will be known and unlike dogs a happy safe baby bunny hood is no guarantee of getting buns happy to be handled, most hate it. There are over 67,000 rabbits in rescue and most of them have no 'issues' often it's just because the kids got bored!

Otherwise I think a pair of Dutch buns are lovely. Just make sure they are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and that at least 80-90% of their diet is hay!

Yes we would love to rescue a happy pair that we knew liked each other and were known to be laid back. I'll research local rabbit rescue. Thank you.
