Indoor Play

T'was too cold and damp for the pigs to venture outside today so they had their first big indoor play of the season. A big fleece blanket on the kitchen floor with a paper bag and a box while I tackled the ironing. They ended up staying there during dinner and homework. Scruffypig ran laps between his fleece zone and Current Buns cage (he leapt in a few times and had a quick snooze in Current Buns bed), Gingerpig just watched and shouted encouragement. Current Bun had a quick investigate of the pig zone, then found a quiet corner to sleep.

We tried letting our new girls out for a run around the kitchen but they just sat in the box we'd put out for them to hide in quivering. Hopefully soon they'll be flying around the kitchen with Mr Pig. That's on hold until their mites are treated but they are enjoying squeaking to each other across a crowded conservatory...

Our boars never liked the kitchen tiles but the sows are more adventurous and will try to escape under the fridge.

DD was able to leave GP1 in the middle of the floor (I was watching him),come back to him and he'd hop onto her lap "I don't like it Mum, it's cold on my 'nads"

If you look carefully on the photo of the two pigs, you can see Current Bun in the background on his toilet! Poor boy, he's very embarrassed.

Gingerpig wouldn't move from the fleece but found the whole thing very exciting and did lots of popcorns. The most exciting bit was when I opened the fridge. He couldn't popcorn enough!

Only Scruffypig runs off, but only ever to Current Buns house. Gingerpig is scared of the wooden floor so he doesn't try at the moment. So I can leave them unsupervised for a few minutes. I don't leave them long in case Current Bun accidentally sits on them! Actually he's so soppy, he lets them walk all over him - literally sometimes - so I'm never worried about him hurting them. Previous Bun would have tried to kill them

If Scruffy thinks he's had enough playtime, he does wander to the utility room door and queue up ready to go home.

I've read on here about bonding GPs in a paddling pool. Would that work as an indoor run do you think? Last winter our indoor run was in the kitchen using the run from outside and a big blanket on the floor. It takes a while to put out and tidy away though, then I end up mopping the floor.
I'm wondering if a paddling pool would work. Could put hay/ newspaper on the bottom and it would be easy to tidy away afterwards?

That'd be fine, I'm sure. I used to stick a proper indoor run up, but now my boys are set in their ways, they are very predictable and I can leave them on an old blanket. Setting up the run was a hassle. The blanket is so much easier - I do have to mop afterwards though. The kitchen floor is always so much cleaner in winter!

You don't think they'd try and eat the paddling pool?

They should be fine in the paddling pool if it's inflated so there's no baggy bits for their teeth to get purchase. (ours has three rings that you need to blow up seperately. Once it's done and the rings are fully inflated they didn't bother trying)

Besides, if the inside is full of bags,tunnels, hidey boxes and most importantly, Food , they'll have plenty to do.

Or if you want, you could drape an old sheet inside?

I need to buy one though! Hoping end of summer= bargain paddling pools aka guinea pig indoor runs

Some excellent ideas here. Too cold and windy for outdoor nibbling today, a sheet lined paddling pool will be arranged for the weekend!

All animals can laugh?! I...... th..ink!...... my last late gpigs never laugh but these new ones laugh quite a lot. my gpigs' laugh like hu..hu..hu..hu..hu.. hu for several seconds at a time whenever they heard the phone ringing or other sudden noises or got back into the cage.
