Be honest... If your dp hated small furries would you still have got yours?

I want some guinea pigs. Ds would LOVE them. And dd, although she's only 3 so wouldn't be too hands on iykwim.

BUT dh HATES the idea of small furries!

I think he's freaked out by their claws, but he says they are just rubbish and expensive.

So... If your dp hated the idea of small furries would you still have got yours?

It would be hard for me to go through with buying any animal if OH was so against it. We do have gpigs. DH has nothing to do with them. Which is fair enough. He said he wouldn't before we bought them-kids aren't bothered at all either now. But me and the DC would LOVE a dog. But DH is adamant that he won't have one. And i know I can't go over his head about that. Gpigs are a lot more containable tho. I love my piggies.

Difficult one - we have a similarish issue about cats which is currently hypothetical but likely to become real soon. He hates them, whereas if we had the right house I would love to have one and its looking like we might be moving soon to a cat friendly house.
My current thinking is that it would probably be wrong to get a cat against his wishes. But he has to abide by similar rules if I really don't like something and he does, he can't bring it into our family home.
By the way my DP loves small furries so my only suggestion for you is whether there is any way to expose him to how fab small furries are? Any local friends, who you could look after theirs while they go on holiday?

No I wouldn't.

A friend has got a few pets and her DP hates it. She asked if he'd be okay with getting them for her and the kids, he said no he didn't want them, she got them anyway. To say he wasn't impressed is an understatement.

Yes! A pet borrowing service would be perfect!

I think he has an idea that they will be like rats (bad vermin rats not pet ones!). And they're SO not!

He is dead against them so I really can't do anything until he takes a more "fine, but I'm not having anything to do with them" stance.

Dh is NOT an animal lover at all!

My DH secretly loves is ok with the guineas and you really need another capable pair of adult hands on board if you are away or unwell.
When I take the DC (either DD/DS or both) to see my parents , DH will look after the guineas.

If you love the furry critters you'll overlook the fur everywhere, the hay everywhere the salad filling the fridge (no room to chill the beer )

If you DON'T like them, these things will grate.

Well DH rolled his eyes and offered up a silent prayer when I and the DC persuaded him our guinea pig needed 2 friends from the rescue instead of the agreed 1

He doesn't really 'get' them and doesn't handle them. But he has been known to chat to them and is an invaluable pair of hands when I'm not well quite often feeding them and helping with the cleaning out.

If he really hated them, we wouldn't have got them. It wouldn't be fair. I can't stand dogs. Hell will freeze over before we get a pooch.

a dog is a big family committment imo
gpigs - dh not keen but as he isnt allergic, i didnt pay attention. they dont interfere with his life.

If DH was against I wouldn't get them. Mine is hands off although he chats to them and always says 'bye' to them when he leaves for work. And CurrentBun loves him and sits next to him for strokes. I do all the work though. Which is why we will never have a dog. Also won't have a cat as I don't like them.

DD and I were cuddling the girls, DH was cuddling GP3 who was perched on DH arm like that scene from The Lion King where he peers over the cliff.

GP3 did dance a bit, DH didn't twig and got peed on.

In my house the pigs love me as I am 'her that brings food'.

CurrentBun sees me as 'that evil woman' despite the fact that I feed him.

My DH hates rabbits and said we couldn't get but I really wanted one- we now have two that he's a bit scared of and won't hold but he'll stroke them if they come up to him.

Me and DS wanted a mini pooch but DP was so against it. I got two house bunnies instead, which we love. DP is ok with them and I even catch him doing the "bunny" voice at them when giving em treats . even though they eaten numerous ps/Xbox/phone charger wires - oops!!

The rats were here first (not the same ones sadly). If dh didn't like them he wouldn't have made it as far as dp, never mind dh!

It's down to DH that we now have 6 rabbits! We did have 3 guinea pigs too but sadly our last one died a couple of months ago. All because DH is a softy loves anything small and fluffy. But they're a big commitment, and I've had to do my fair share of cleaning, feeding and clipping claws. They are/were all worth it.

I think it would be wrong for you to go against him. I absolutely hate small furries too. I could never have a rat, mouse, hamster, guinea pig etc. I think I would even feel uncomfortable with rabbits, but could perhaps compromise if DS ever asked for one. If DH went behind my back and bought any small furries, I would be livid and incredibly upset.

DH has the same views with dogs. I would love a dog, but DH isn't keen. I would never go behind his back.

well, depends on your oh imo.....my dh hates small furries but that didnt stop me rescuing 9 small furries....
dh doesnt like em, but he tolerates me so thats fine! he helps me clean em out as long as he doesnt have to touch them....and he runs a mile if they take one step toward him! but i love my furry rescues and he loves me!

yes I would have, and the big ones too. luckily he doent so I don't need to worry bit u didn't tell him about the new ferret or the chinchilla for weeks after I got them
