Tomorrow i am picking up my new Piggy girl on long term loan to adopt if they bond - she is around a year old from the rescue and that all i know other than she came in a year ago from accidental re- population at a school. She is a lilac one apparently with ginger and white - im not fussy what she looks like but they are bringing one to meet me half way from the rescue that they have selected to be most likely to bond with my 6 yr old. Any tips on how to meet eachother. I have cleared out our shed now that the hutch is in, lino floored it and added a seperate corner with another hidey house igloo in it should the need space. Am mucho excited - she has no name either.

GP1 had no choice really WRT accepting GP3 Grin
When we got the baby he was six weeks and spent most of his time glued to GP1 side or under his belly .

On the first night, every tiny sound had him diving over to GP1.

Now, it's a bit more even sizewise. GP3 does still try to mount GP1 .

But even if mine aren't best buddies, it's not a huge hurdle.
GP1 and his brother were a bit distant ,

But we notice GP1 gets fretful if GP3 (and when we had GP2) is away from him. He likes to know where they are.

I checked this morning early doors (ran out in my pj's in the rain) - they were both in an igloo each - but not the ones they started the night off in Hmm. I am Smile though that she isn't cowering under the hutch - maybe we are settling in - I think it would be nice if another two were in there with them Shock.

I knew you'd be out at first light to check them Wink
Did you keep waking and think "Oh I hope they're ok"

Are you thinking about getting another couple of hogs then , mmmmmmmmmmm ?

Yes very very very wrong. They are mops on legs Grin

They are hard work. My pig (when I was in my 20s) was a black Peruvian . "Marmite".

She needed daily combing, and I kept her fur floor level especially round her bum.
Show guineas aren't trimmed they need paper rollers.

It sounds a bit mean but IMO the more 'fancy' a pig is the more they lose of their natural life.
My pigs run about in long grass and twiggy bits. Dive through hay. And clean their own fur though bath time is a neccessary evil >

When I see the huge fluffy types I think "Is there a GP in there"?

Satins have luminous coats but are prone to joint and bone problems Sad

I'm seriously hoping that my GP3 is a Rex not a Swiss, the Rex coat looks less maintenance (though if he is Swiss, we'll keep it slightly trimmed for easy care.) At the end of it, he's GP3 not a show pig.

OK Rant over.

GP1 says big golden agouti smooths are the ONLY pigs to own.

Grin at mops on legs - your totally right its impractical I wouldn't have time some days to groom - I do love the bed heady ness of my newbie.

Aw she's got a lovely little fluffy standy up bit on her head and a 'ridge' down her spine from her photo.
And she has the most amazing eyes.

(But d'you know Agouti Boars just need a wipe with a damp flannel - according to GP1 ) Grin

noyouhavehadawee · 15/09/2013 17:25

Sooty is back sat under the hutch so ive put a towel down for her with some hay on and moved a giant tube near her too - seems content enough. I have always avoided boars neutered or not because I read something about impacted bottoms and having to help remove it and that just makes me heave Grin

I found out about impaction once my lads had moved in Confused

70 - I'd love to watch you attempt to give GP3 a trim Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/09/2013 18:16

I thought my GP2 would have impaction but he popped out his Ferrero Rocher poohs with great aplomp Wink

FerbieB if he's a Rex I'm home and dry .
I cut his claws once .........my skin is juuuuust starting to heal.
