Gerbil wee

Our gerbils keep going onto the top level of their gerbilarium into the corner to do their wees they go there on purpose just to wee. Problem is the wee tends to go through the bars and drips onto the kitchen counter which is a bit yuck.

As this is obviously their toilet spot is there something I could put there as a form of litter Tray? Would they go in it?

Oh no! Could you put something solid down, like cardboard? Although the might chew that up in seconds. Thick cardboard! Or a sheet of wood? Our platforms are made of wood (covered in cardboard) and they always pee on that & I just change the cardboard. They don't tend to chew it up because it's just a flat sheet, and not the preferred box-shape.

Empty jam jars can work too.

Thanks for the reply anything cardboard disappears in seconds but maybe wood would work. May need to make some sort of corner type thing rather than just flat as sometimes they manage to sort of squirt it horizontaly through the side as well! What would I do with the jam jar?

With the jam jar, you just literally put a clean empty jar in the corner where they normally pee, and the idea is that they go in there to do it. As the volume of liquid is so small, it's enough to contain it for a day or so until you rinse it out.

This worked with mine for a bit, but they stopped using it as a toilet and started just going in there and digging at the sides. Also, jars tend to be round so can roll off the ledge!

Problem with wood is it sort of soaks into it & makes it difficult to clean.

Sorry, I don't really have the answer!
