HELP NEEDED. Can you give a boar a home?

Sadly a member on Rodents with Attitude is in the very sad situation of needing to re-home all her guinea pigs. And there are a lot!

I've tried to tempt Guineapiglet but her accommodation is just not suitable yet. But she did give me the idea of asking whether it is ok to put a thread up on MN about the plight of the poor piggies. Well the owner has given the go ahead so the basic details are:-

4 boars, all singletons. All attempts to bond so far unsuccessful. They are approx. 1 year old. All suitable for neutering and would be happy to meet a laydee piggy or two.

1 boar Muffin is 3 years is all alone as recently his cagemate/brother Crumpet died .

Arrangements can be made to get the guinea pigs anywhere in the Country via the RWA forum.

Is the owner in a position to neuter the boars prior to rehoming them? It would make it much easier if they need to go to homes with laydeez.
Depends on her circumstances, I can appreciate it's a heck of an outlay financially.

Can we just clarify incase there are any interested guinea mums on here :
:- there are four boys, but singletons, in that so far they cannot all live together, so if any of you have a bereaved boy or girl, one of these lovely boys could be a potential cage mate ( after integration and possible neutering.)

Any idea what part of the country they are in at the mo in case anyone wants to go and visit to see them? Would that be possible? Maybe contact the guineapig forum magazine as well who might be able to put an advert in the mag for readers.

Are you tempted fortified ? I know I am.

There are 5 in total. It's the boys that are harder to find homes for. The girls have all been lucky enough to have been offered new homes.

Most of the boys are approx. one year old.

Juno is a pretty black and white piggy with brown eyes.

There is a red self with pink eyes

I think there are 2 that are buff and cream with pink eyes

Muffin is buff and white and I think his eyes are brown, hard to tell from the photo I've seen.

The piggies are currently living in Sussex.

Guineapiglet I would love to take Muffin or Juno. I have thought about Old Boy's hutch I've kept just in case I need it for quarantine . But DH and DD1 would kick off. I've already asked DD1 how she felt about us having another boar. She said no . I've only got DD2 on my side .

Please everyone ask yourselves can you have one more pig without causing divorce . The owner is a devoted long term guinea owner and its only due to a change of family circumstances that she is no longer able to keep her piggies.

The piggies are sooo cute and short haired with nice easy to trim white claws apart from Juno. They wouldn't be any trouble honest.

Has anyone got a friend considering guinea pig ownership?

The current owner is going through a really stressful time having had to face re-homing 10 guinea pigs . The 4 sows have been promised homes twice over, 1 boar has since died leaving 5 REMAINING. This not a case of bad sexing or kids getting bored with pets.

I could easily offer another sow if she's anywhere local to the West Midlands. I have 3 girls and a castrated boy at the moment. Another lady would make his day :)

Methe thank you for coming forward with your offer for a sow. But luckily the girls have landed on their paws and each pair has a home and a plan B home promised to them.

But nobody wants the boys . Well I want one but I know I'm not allowed to have one so no point asking. Grumble Grumble Grrrr.....

It's so difficult with boars isn't it :( my boy came to me as one of a pair and was bullied mercilessly and is covered in scars so I don't think having another boy is wheeking distance would be fair. Good luck finding them a home :)

No unfortunately a new boy can not into a herd of sows with a resident boar. The fighting would be horrific .

I'm in a 2 boar household and it would be very unfair on all concerned to bring a new lot of fur covered testostorone into the mix.

I know 70 trios nearly always don't work. I would try and persuade you into an extra hutch but none of the boys are bonded .

All 5 boars still need homes

When my computer savy DD comes home, I'll if she can update my profile with their pictures from the Rodents with Attitude site. So you'll see how beautiful they are.

If ever we suffered a guinea pig bereavement we'd have to consider but feeling over stretched in every direction for now including in terms of space! (Tiny flat in city...)

3 possible homes have been found on other forums. One in Scotland , the piggies are currently living in Kent/Sussex border. That's one long distance to organise a piggy train.

Piggy train = where kind people offer to transport guinea pigs on an hour or two of their journey.

I still keep thinking of that spare hutch and run and everything else and that boar shaped hole in my life since I lost my precious Old Boy But how do I convince the DH

Fortified you know we women have ways and means to work our charms to get the desired result..................................... or, you could explain how depressed and low you feel without another male in your life - it would give your husband a male ally and male company when you girls are out?? Come on, you know you want to......:)

PS have just taken my new guinea nephews a HUGEEEEEEEEEE bunch of that really lovely long seedy grass found in the fields walking home. As a reward was allowed to stroke the boys and coo to them. Wonderful.
