I'm trying fleece again....LittlePig is being the Guinea Pig (no pun intended). IT STINKS :(

Hes been scenting and its all I can smell!

I use vetbed fleece (the liquid wicks through keeping the top dry,) and it doesn't smell all that bad - well, unless you leave it for a long time. Ordinary fleece, I've not tried though.

What are you putting under the fleece Bonkey?
My GP1 and GP2 had a lovely soft fleece in a box with a pile of hay in their night bed. They sat on the hay and ignored the fleece. So I gave them just newspaper and hay on wooden furry friendly cat litter and they seem happy with that.

You could try some cat litter under the fleece (I've seen some bunnies on the wooden pellets alone but I don't know how it would feel under little cavy paws)

And what are you washing the fleece with? Some animals will try to overcome the smell of a bio washing powder by going back to pee on it.(I use Ecover on the boys blankets- they have them in their washing basket that I use to cart them off to their Pighouse or emergency toilet when we cuddle them)

When they were in the dining room last year I used Catsan under layers of newspaper and it really worked for their aromas. Now they're unstairs so not so noticeable.

But the hay+fleece thing is a nightmare.
(It's my GP1 who marks. And I'm sure his mother was a camel going by the size of his bladder. I fear for my little pigglie sometimes)

I'm using a foam matting that was recommended on the guinea pig forum I got mine from ebay. It smelled quite plasticy when I first got it but a couple of washes and it's fine, the wee wicks straight through. I have easibed underneath.

It's great, the hay, fur and poo brush off really easily. Mine wee mostly in a litter tray so it only needs washing about every 3-4 weeks.

This was the one I got but apparently Dunelm sell ones with lovely patterns on.

I only put it down tonight....has two layers of wadding and a towel underneath.

Washed in non bio a few times so its soaks through.

I did think about vet bed but getting hay off it put me off....plus I am wary for some reason about washing it. Seems to thick iyswim. Same with the foam stuff - I read the thread on the forum today :)

He likes it - hes all sprawled out as we speak - normally he is in his bed but he has kind on made himself a dent ....

KRITIQ How often do you wash your vet bed? Do you have anything underneath?

I had an old waterproof sheet from my DC when they were not dry at night.
IIRC they were HippyChick from Boots.
They were like a thick felt with the plastic sealed in the middle.
I sewed this to the back of a fleece blanket to make it absorbant.

You might be able to pick something up on Ebay or similar.
