outside guinea Hutch do you use woodshavings ,paper bedding ,newspaper ??

In my indoor c&c we have bought fleece for the flooring but what do you all use outside my bunny has had woodshavings for 6 years and so did my last bunny but I have now been told this isn't great for small animals I haven't had a problem before but what do you all use ? Getting our pigs march /April time.

Hi Andrea - lucky you getting some guineas soon! You will have great fun with them. You are right, wood shavings and sawdust aren't great for guineas - do you mean on the floor for them to run round indoors? Lots of people on here use different things so you will get good advice for your circumstances - with mine I usually used newspaper as they do wee and poop pretty non stop - not sure how many you are getting, but it is helpful to have lots of friends who read big broadsheet papers! This can be changed easily, and could do layers with hay stuffed in so could just take the top layer off. Wait a while and others will give you their advice. If mine were indoors they had some wipeable lino to run on as well, usually lined with paper and hay. ( Guineas arent great either with shredded paper if it is inky as this can make their skin react).

Hi as for indoors they can just run on the floor when they are in the house and out of the c&c as it can all have a mop I just mean on the floor of their outdoor Hutch like my bunny has woodshavings on the bottom level and hay on top level of her Hutch thank you :) oh and getting two for now

when I got the boars I bought a huge bag of Megazorb. It was ok but once I'd used it I didn't buy more.
In the boys indoor cage they have wooden cat litter (small furry friendly) + newspaper + a box of hay.

Outside, I put cardboard (I get boxes from work and remove all the sellotape/plastic) + newspaper on the main floor.
In their haybox they have a large rubber car mat (bootliner from Costco) to insulate. Then a good layer of the wooden catlitter )again to insulate and give them give a cushion). Then cardboard+newspaper and soft straw at the back + hay in the middle.

I clean the indoor cage every night.
The outdoor one has a pooh pick daily and a complete weekly clean ( in summer though ,less bedding , changed daily)

I've been throuh everything I can think of from fleece to pillows.
When I gave them a banana box with an old pillow in it, they didn't use it. They had a plastic/rubber trug full of hay. They both parked themselves in the trug pretending to be Guineas in a Bucket (Very sad story I read on a Rescue site where the owners were over-run and had to keep a boar in a bucket. Mine were pretending to be hard done by. Little toads)

Do you have the newspaper under the card ? Or card under the paper ? What's the story why did they have to keep it in a bucket ?

Newspaper on the cardboard (more absorbant) then I roll up the newspaper +hay+straw to throw out. The cardboard lasts about a week if they don't pee on it.

The GP in a bucket- I read about an elderly couple who were over-run with guineas so put the put the boar in a bucket until the rescue could take him. (More neglect and desperate measures than out-and-out cruelty but not a nice life)

When I gave my boys their lovely pillow bed they had a trug (about 40 litres) with a 'door' cut in it. I filled it with newspaper and hay with a flat cardboard lid.
Everytime I opened it, the two of them were crammed into the trug, their little faces looking up "We're guineas in a bucket.Poor guineas"
