bald hamster

our hamster bubbles is over 1 year old and is going bald i have changed his bedding incase of mites just using newspaper and some cottonwooly stuff for bedding.
Could it be his age?

Toffee, DD's hamster is 2 now (ancient age for a hammy) and he has bald patches and sort of shuffles around his cage but when we let him out he relives his youth and shoots around the living room.

Sorry not the advice you were looking for redbull, not really sure we just put it down to him being an old codger.

thankyou thats what i thought but relatives were saying its mites and i should maybe take him to the vets in case of anything serious!!

You have made me feel better thankyou as bubbles does the same runs around everywhere and he hardley scratches.

I once took Toffee to the vet because I thought he had a growth on his bottom - it turned out to be his rather large testicles!

Felt very stupid when the vet explained what it was. He tried to make me feel better by saying a few people had brought hamsters in with the same thing.

Just wanted to get out as quick as I could.

LOL I thought I was th only one who had taken a hamster to the vets for swollen lumps!

I had a hamster that went bald once - not the testicle one - took it to the vets and they gave me a dip to dip it inot daily. Can't remember if it made him better though he did live for ages completely bald. Died at age 3!

our hamster is 2 and is bald round his face and belly, im taking him to the vets today to get him checked out, have to say he is looking old.
