We got our Piggies from the rescue place where they had a hutch in a run without a roof, at the zoo the piggy run also doesn't have a roof

I know why they need one at home but why not in the rescue place/zoo? My piggies would be able to play out whenever they wanted if I could put their hutch in the run but of course then the roof won't fit on.

Confused Maybe they don't have foxes or cats with all the people being there?

But it does sound weird and unsafe.

We have a family of 2 adults 2 young who patrol my garden (even though my neighbours have dogs)

I throw pears at the foxes and yell at them Blush .
NDN thinks I'm a bit eccrentric (but their rabbit got killed by a fox so they understand)

Just because there is people about doesn't mean a over cocky buzzard won't take a risk! Confused .

I worry they are bored but they don't play with any toys I have them and the pet shop lady said they don't really do toys. Why do they make them then for GPs?

Some don't, some do!

LittlePig will chew, run, push balls around, dig water Hmm , snaffle through hay....

BigPig just sits on his podgy arse in one spot and eats looking all 'I'm the boss! I can do what i like!' . He does have the occasional mosey through a tunnel though Grin

How about a run that attaches to the hutch? I let mine roam free but when they are in a run the roof is always on, so they don't get cornered. Free-ranging, they can escape. We don't have foxes, cats like to watch but not 'play' and no buzzards. I wouldn't trust a cat in a run with them though

We spent £400 kitting them out so not really wanting to buy new stuff. The hutch could go in the run but then the roof can't go on top.

Are you looking for ideas for your run, or just wondering why the rescues didn't have a roof on the run? I guess if there are always people around, it is safe enough and then they get locked up at night. With our run, I put the pigs out all day and stick some old fence panels over part of the run top in case of rain, plus a few hidey holes for piggies. They like lots of tunnels best.

I want them to be able to go out to play when they want and then back in their hutch instead of having to wait for us to put them out and bring them in again. ATM it is too cold and wet for them to go out anyway, imo, but maybe they would still rather pop out for a bit. I worry they get bored in their hutch all the time when it is cold.

Some others have a run attached to their hutch and still spend a lot of time outside. In winter, I let them run round the living room - too cold for piggies imo

When they have gone out they spend quite a bit of time hiding in their tunnel so I assumed it was too cold and they didn't want to be out, as in the summer they graze on grass. We live on top of a hill so the ground gets wet and stays wet for a long time.
