Do they still get dipped?

Question from a random Q and A with the kids (ooh - look at dem sheep in dat field... Mum, can sheep swim?...Well, yes, as they used to get dipped, blah blah blah - long explanation of sheep dipping viewed on Blue Peter or something)

So, do they still get dipped and why did they used to / still get dipped?

Hi there - havent seen a sheep question before!! Yes, they still get dipped- usually they go through a dip a couple of times a year, where they do have to swim but they can usually touch the bottom - the dip is to prevent the infestation of ticks etc on their skin, and a general disinfectant against other nasties...... have seen it happen lots in Cumbria. Sheep generally dont really like it but they follow each other, literally like sheep amidst great wails of distress......often they come out with a blue rinse!

Thank you guineapiglet.

I know they're woolly really, not furry, but couldn't think where else to post...

Children will be in awe of my sheepy knowledge!!!
