megazorb bedding

Ive heard its really good for small furry's ( even tho i think its horse bedding )

so any one else use it on here? what am i to expect? ive read it can be a bit dusty but great at keeping smell in.

I keep rats and am not keen on Megazorb, even though is is supposed to be dust extracted I still think it is too dusty for tiny lungs, it is also very light and get thrown everywhere.

I much prefer Hemcore or Aubiose, both made from hemp, both also sold as horse bedding. I can get a bale of either from a local farm suppliers for about a tenner, it lasts about 7-8 months.

Hemcore is slightly coarser and citronella scented, Aubiose is slightly finer and lighter. Personally I prefer Hemcore.

thanks gobbler, so would you say not to use it for my mice?

I will use it for the rabbit still, what about hamsters?

the bag is MASSIVE!!! it takes up my 2seater sofa id say im sorted for bedding for a year if its any good lol.

i did see hemcore and auboise, if no use i will look into those choices.

Afaik from the rat forums I am on (lots of people have meeces too ) it is generally considered too dusty and some people have (rightly or wrongly) attributed it to causing resparitory problems in both. So personally I wouldn't for anything other than your bunnies.

But yes, the bales are massive, I keep mine in the attic (it just fits through the hatch) and just go and sccop some into a box when I need it, bit faffy but at least it is out of the way, I woudn't recomend keeping it on your sofa though

I have used it for both Gpigs and hamsters.

I liked it but it didn't last half as long as I thought it would and its a pita for me to get so I gave up with it in the end.

Lots of small furry lovers use it and recomend it as one of the best bedding oput there. Auboise is another fave, but i was worried about that getting stuck in my boys bits .

I bought a sack of it when I got the boars and it is dusty.

I've gone through all sorts of bedding trial and error with them.
(I couldn't get the Megazorb or hay off the fleeces without a load of brushing)

Last year I gave mine Catsan under a layer of newspaper with hay on top (indoors) and it did mask/neutralise their aroma de boar in their indoor cage.

I'm going to try Bio Catlet this year with hay. It's a paper pressed into pellets .If they have deep layer they can make little nests in it, and have fine shredded paper to play in with deep hay to scoff.

I picked up a bag of wood based pellets in Tesco (own brand) and the smell in the bag was enough to make me gag .

I keep bedding in my garage and decant it into a black plastic bin with a locking lid .

so far so good! :)

its masked the smell brilliant. its better then wood shavings i was using and even tho its quite light my rabbit hasnt flung it about as much as wood shaving. also it isnt as dusty as i was expecting - which having a dust allergy is releaving!

still when its run out im looking at trying hemcore :)
