hamsters :)

so today i took home 2 syrian hamsters, brother and sister who ended up being unsold in the pet shop. they are around 2-2 1/2 never been handled :(

the female was hissing squaking like a parrot! the old boy was quite calm but jumpy.

they gave them to me saying ''they wont make good pets they will just bite''
when i got them home i gave my near neighbour a knock who's DS's had lost their hamster.

they was over joyed to give old boy a loving home for the last part of his short life :)

meanwhile ive spent time with girly hamster (ive named her hope) she hasnt bit me, has stopped hissing, i can pick her up.... she comes over to see whats going on. she's such a lovely hamster, currently snuggling next to me as i type away

so just thought thought id share a happy story with you :)

My wee girl has the most loving caring hamster in the world considering how much my wee girl "loves it" in a carrying it down her clothes, giving it baths, and generally smothering type of way. TBH im surprised its still alive but it seems to love all the attention. Changed her bed yesterdaya and found evidence of hamster poo,, so she must be sleeping with it too... altogether AWWWWWWWWWW, they have both found someone to love!!!

that they have short lifes but at least they'll have a few happy months with new owners.

yes i do have a rabbit. its not that i couldnt leave without it - i wasnt leaving without it. i could of walked out and left it but not in that shop.

ive always wanted to foster/rescue animals, they keep me happy (i suffer from bouts of depression) in a way we help each other.

70 they were in seperate tanks next to each other not in the same one, if they was together i wouldnt of took one away from the other at their age.

My hamster is gorgeous. We've had him since he was about 5 weeks. He is so tame, loves having baths, snuggles right up to DS2 and goes to sleep ext to him.

I think he thinks he is a cat though, because when he washes he sits on his bum and pulls his back foot forwards to wash it! I video'd him washing the other day, it went on for over 5 minutes!

oh how sad too ugly? :( good of you to take him in :)
this old girl is amazing, she's snuggly, was sitting in the dog basket with the dog! not even had her 24hrs and she settled :)

I lost my first hamster at just 11mths in 2010. i was so upset, hope is the double of my first one (bear) :)

coconut - that sounds lovely, they bring so much joy to kids/people and its sad how some people see them as pointless pets.

reminds me of the ugly duckling story lol

ive kept the girl and the boy is a few doors down living with two very excited young boys i popped back in earlier to see how he was settling and was glad to hear he is happy. the kids had him out on their lap :)

can u imagen looking at the same walls for 2 1/2 yrs! they were in tiny tanks, my girl has never taken such big strides :) she loved the stroll around the living room.

DD and I were in P@H buying GP food today. They had some rabbits and hamsters in the rehome bit.

A few months back there were 2 GP boars that were there because "our owner can't cope with us".

One of them gave us a right shifty look, did not inspire me to clasp him to my bosom at all (beside the fact my boars would be unimpressed).
thing is, they can't compete against the pens of beautiful baby pigs.

My big agouti boar looks like a squirrel when he washes (without the tail) but I worry that he'll fall over (not that I would laugh of course)

there was rabbits and hamsters at my local pets at home too - signs say ''weve been here a while'' and ''owner couldnt keep me'' :(

i love watching super furries clean, so cute

doubt the owners cut fresh fruit & veg so guessing it was just dry food?

talking about running for miles they've never had a wheel either!

I would remove my sofa's to make room for more lol but that wouldnt be realistic.

im not one of these people who take on what they cant handle, they are all handled and given the best care. ive got 3 little helpers who loved setting up and giving the hamster (and rabbit) a good cuddle :)

just dont want to come across as one who has animals in every room, no contact and never changed.

i bought a lizard off some one who had the completely wrong set up for it and vivarium too small. i broke down my large living room display cabinet and converted it into a bigger vivarium :) the old one he was in will be house by my mice upgrading from their ferplast hamter cage.

One of my childrens friends is a vetinary nurse,who lives at home.
After she had bought home about 12 different unwanted/unclaimed animals.her parents had to put a stop to it!
She then asked around her friends if they wanted any.Not sure where she is at with it all now.

I only help what i can cope with, i would never bring home 4,5,6 cats or dogs! but small furries dont take up too much space or time and only have a short life. just want to make it special instead of dying out in a shop :)

my neighbours sons were planning on buying a baby hamster from p@H in a few months but once they saw that oldies are just as sweet and caring they were won over. infact their mum said when he passes she will be looking in the adoption section in p@H instead
