Best way to rehome my guinea pigs?

I can't cope with them anymore and I feel terrible. I'm a very anxious person and recently my depression is just getting worse and I can't help but worry about my poor little guinea pigs getting neglected. Money is tight and they need a new cage as the current one didnt have a proper rain cover and all this rain recently has wrecked it. We can't afford to keep buying all this hay and sawdust and food etc.

What can I do with them? I cannot keep them or my anxiety levels will go through the roof. I feel terrible even wanting rid of them :(

So sorry to hear that. I would phone up some GP rescues. Make sure they go to a GP rescue as they will look after them and find them a good home.

but if you feel you really can't keep them and their health and well being will suffer then phone round some rescues.

But be prepared to travel and go on a waiting list. Unfortunately this is a busy time for rescues (as is just after Christmas)
People don't want to rehome during holiday times and some people unfortunately will cast off animals rather than find accomodation for holidays.

Is there anyone else in your family who can help with the day-to-day running of the GPs.
Can you get a cage and cover from Freecycle or GumTree to tide you over?
I don't use sawdust myself and I don't buy newspapers. I poach them from the London Underground and the free newspapers from supermarkets.

There might not be any specific guinea-pig rescues in your area. Try Rabbit Rescues (I got my 2 boars from a rabbit rescue, mainly because my nearest guinea rescue was 25 miles away, whereas the bunny place was a couple of miles. And they had some GPs in - and the rest,as they say ,is history. So yes there are people looking for adult guineas. Just takes a bit of time)

Hi, very sorry to hear your story - I wondered if you had a friendly, helpful local vet, our vets do take in small creatures in extremis, and usually have lists/contact names of people who may well be able to offer respite care - I have done this myself for guineas over the years, provided shelter, food and care until a more permanent home becomes available.Is there a local animal sanctuary type place?Worth checking out. In the meantime, while you do this, just make sure the guineas are clean, watered and fed, - even some handfuls of grass or dandelions from the garden if poss - if they have each other for company this will help them.

Really hope you start to feel better and things work out for you and the guineas.
