Drat - thought I was so organised for our new bunnies but now have a problem!

We are collecting two little rabbits on sunday, the hutch (very big) & attatched run (also quite big) are ready, we have all the bits we need (or at least I think we do!) now I've realised we have creeping buttercup in the garden. Now I'm so cross with myself as have had it since we moved in & have tried many times to get rid of it but at the time couldn't use anything as had a cat that nibbled on it. So it's been dug up but it just keeps coming back. So looks like the bunnies will be stuck in their hutch for a while whilst we get this sorted. I figure as it's a large hutch and they are little 12 week old buns they will be ok with this & it will give them chance to get settle in?

There are companies (there's one called Greenthumb) that do animal friendly weedkillers ie safe for pets after an hour but one site I read suggested keeping them off for 4-7 days.

I've got buttercup patches on the lawn so I make sure my guinea pigs don't have their run on any. Their run is a moveable 7'x4'. But if your run/hutch is attatched then it's more difficult.

TBH our GP boars have never shown any interest in the buttercups but if they were babies I wouldn't trust them.

If I was looking to destroy buttercups quickly and without bunny harming side effects, I'd try one of those dig'n'twist weeders to remove individual ones (time consuming) or the 'heat wand' like a long gas lighter. But it would probably make your lawn look a bit scorched and scabby.

Have a word in your local garden centre- your bunnies probably won't be going out just yet, until they settle in.

Thanks 70 I will have a look into them May be a stupid question but is it the leaves of the buttercup that are bad for bunnies or just the flowers?

Both are highly toxic to GPs so I'd assume the same for rabbits.

GPs can't be sick either so if something goes down, it goes down.

Thank you. Am off to order a wand thingy, the buttercups are between the paving slabs and side of the patio so almost impossible to dig up so the fire method seems the best way to go. Thank you for that as never heard of them before!
