C&c cage is up! Pigs are in TOGETHER!!!!!

Lots of the usual humping, chasing, chattering etc but.....no fights!! Not even a nose off!!!!! YAY!!! Keeping fingers firmly crossed!!!!

They have confused me abit though.
To start with Big pig was boss, he rumble-strutted, humped etc. then Little pig (who is not so little anymore!) started rumbling and this was the problem that led to the fights.

So far this morning, Little pig is rumble-strutting and wiggling his arse around but Big pig is the one who is chasing and humping.

It looks to me that Big pig is still boss pig, so why is Little pig still rumbling. It doesn't look like he is trying to cause trouble for once. Is he just showing off?

As i type they are sharing a pile of hay :)

Probably because everything is new for them, they're in neutral territory and they don't know if you've put a scorpion in one of the beds (as all us GPs owners tend to do, for a laugh)

It sounds like your Little Pig is making a Bid for Supremacy.
Give them lots of food and hidey spaces and hopefully they'll settle in.

Well peace didn't last :(

That is the last time I am going to try and get them back together. At the moment I am nursing two very pissed off pigs with bleeding mouths :(

They have been fine all afternoon. I went out for 10 minutes and came back to blood.
I have split their run into two and thats the way it shall stay, at least for the near future next few years !

See, if I was a piggy, I would just get along with my mate coz that way I would have a lovely big run to frolic in, my human mum would be happy because everything looked nice and tidy and spacious, and I have a friend to play with!!!

Gah!! Who knew piggies were so stressful.

if they're anything like rabbits i think slow and steady is the way to go

we have just managed to settle our 3 girl rabbits together after about a year!

we started with short meetings in neutral territory, and split them if they looked like they were getting stressed. keep on doing that and then gradually lengthen the time.
it can/will work eventually but it can be hard work

are they neutered?

I think you might find that if you neuter your boars it may well help. Boars should be put together when one of them is 6 weeks or younger as this is when they will become sexually mature. Introducing two sexually mature boars is very tricky. You could also try letting someone eles try to bond them for you, like a GP rescue or a GP friendly friend so they are on neutral territory. Hi debs Little pig was 5 1/2 weeks when a breeder bonded them for me. Its just not worked. :(

I have tried twice with baths, neutral territory(kitchen floor, brand new cage), lots of food etc. Both times blood has been drawn, and today has been awful. Little pig has a swollen cheek which I am worried about :(.

I'm not keen on neutering, seems to me quite big risks for what could do very little good :(

They are happy as they are for now so I am going to leave them like that.

Big Pig/Little Pig.

Did Little Pig get a bite from Big Pig on his cheek? Will he let you near enough to have a good look? All you can do is clean his face with salty water and see how he is tomorrow.

They might have to carry on side-by-side living (like that "comedy" My wife next door from the early 80's).
And YY, all the websites advice neutering doesn't change their personality, it's only if you want a boy/girl pairing without piglets.

Hopefully time will change your piggles personality for the better, when the hormones settle.
I read the fashion pages and inform my boars that real fur is back in fashion (just to worry them. IRL I'm vegetarian but they don't need to know this )

It looks like it. He has what looks like a scratch where his whiskers are. Its clean and not too deep but he was dripping blood from his mouth earlier which I don't think was coming from the same place. Possibly just inside his lip??? Poor thing is feeling abit sorry for himself. Bit worried :(

Big pig has sore lips too but they don't look swollen. They have just scabbed over now.

Little pig definitely came off worse this time!

Salt water? Table salt ok?
I just used lukewarm water earlier.

Table salt is fine, just enough to make a cloudy solution . It's a good natural antiseptic and the worse he can do is lick the salt, which won't harm him in small amounts.

He might have a bleed from his tongue or gum (they bleed like billy-o)

GP2 blardy well peed on my tonight , not a warning or anything. Ate his parsley, nomnomnom, then voided his bladder.

Ah darn, sorry to hear it didn't work out, but the side by side living may be the best solution.

No, neutering doesn't make a difference if you get a personality clash. It may still be possible to try reintroducing them later on. Try swapping their sides every day so they end up sharing the same "smell" if you see what I mean, and don't get too territorial.

All of you have a breather and hope the wounds heal swiftly.

Little pigs cheek has gone down a fair bit today, so I think we will manage to avoid a dreaded trip to the vets. Poor thing has had a few whiskers ripped out :(

They are definitely happier today, they are both back to themselves, Little pig is currently trying to chew my laptop

Sometimes seperate living is the only way they can have company but their own space.
Many years ago we had a Himalayan mum & daughter. I bought a new black& white sow, we introduced them, but although the younger sow was ok the older one hated the black& white with a passion.
They lived in side-by-side, the new sow was pg when we got her and had a single female piglet.

When the older sow died, her piglet realised she was on her own, and got on with the two other females. They had their own sides to the indoor run, but outside grazed together happily.

Your boys may well settle with age, but at least they've got company on their terms.

Poor Little Pigs' whiskers -ouch . He's trying to find an Eyelash Extension Clinic that will fit artificial whiskers to guineas

If they have drawn blood, don't try and put them back together as it always ends up the same sadly.

They can still be very happy living side by side.
