Sudden deterioration in hamster

DD's hamster (about 18mo) has suddenly become very listless, and was just lying on her hand looking uninterested in anything.

She said she had him out of his cage for a play earlier and he was fine and very lively. The change has happened over not much more than half an hour.

Has anyone had a similar experience or any advice?

He really doesn't look well but no chance of getting him to the vet before tomorrow.

I would wait and see what he's like tomorrow. Hammys go downhill very quickly unfotunatley and 18 months is a good age!

Saying that my hammy did this just before christmas. He was very quiet for a couple of days, slept in strange places without a bed. I thought he was coming to the end but he perked up and is still going strong at 21months.

Maybe he was tired after playing, our hammy can't really do more than 15 mins in the playpen without getting tired now and then goes home for a sleep lazy bugger .

Hope he's ok!

Thanks Spanky. I will try DD with 'maybe he's tired'. Whether true or not it might cheer her up. I'll go and look in on him now.

Aw, sorry to hear about Zuki Sad We lost our ham just before Christmas - another rapid demise - a blessing it wasn't drawn out really. I still feel sad about her.

Oh no :(
RIP Zuki

Thanks guys. DD had a friend over and did a funeral. Now she is planning her next furry animal...
