My DD3 (7yo) has been pretty down and clingy recently, so my friend bought her a hamster to take care of (and all the necessary equipment, provisions etc).

I never thought a tiny rodent could be such a wonderful pet! She has a truly lovely nature - very friendly and loves to be stroked. I think I'm in love :)
(And my DD is enjoying caring for her, too)

I'm a LP, so no dh to compare with. I always said I'd rather get a cat than remarry, but now I think this little ball of fluff may provide all the cuddles I need :o

Me too - I often get my dd's hamster out when no one else is around. They're so cute.

My DD (8) got a hamster for Christmas, and I agree it is the best little ball of fluff ever. She's very cute and does the stupidest of things... I quite like having her out for a cuddle when Dds not around too.

I'm surprised by just how good a pet she has become.

We've got a gerbil, and he is so sweet such a cute personality. Especially when we are cleaning his cage, he goes in a small animal playpen and always escapes, then he has the time of his life running round the room. He thinks he is smarter than us, avoiding capture it's almost like he runs up to us saying "nah nah can't catch me". But we always do in the end. Ahhh bless. My dd's friend has a syrian hamster who we look after when she is on holiday. She is very cute, friendly and docile, will actually sit still on our hands unlike Bert (the gerbil) who is a bit of a madman.

I am with you!! We bought dd (then aged 8) a little hammy last year and Clover is just the best little pet ever. She is funny, friendly, affectionate, tame, cuddely and absolutely brilliant.

(we currently prefer her over our dog who is determined to give me more grey hair and dh premature wrinkles with his antics atm)
