I think our hamster has got food/bedding stuck in one of his cheek pouches...anybody know what to do?

Will it sort itself out?

can you see into it's mouth at all - is it making it uncomfortable that you can see?

iota · 14/01/2006 12:18

how do you know it's stuck - -I thought hamsters were supposed to stuff their cheek puches?

Wallace · 14/01/2006 13:05

He doesn't seem to be very uncomfortable. But hedoesn't seem to be emptying it into his store like normal. Can't really see into his mouth (tried but teeth got in the way!) but think i saw a bit of tissue in there.

if you can't get at it yourself and are worried, it sounds like a trip to the vet to me

zephyrcat · 14/01/2006 13:33

Try puttig a bit of food in front of him like a big bit of carrot but not quite let him get it so he opens his mouth and have a quick look in there

Wallace · 14/01/2006 15:56

That's a good idea. I hope it sorts itself out - I want to avoid taking him to the vet if at all possible!

His name is Grommit BTW

Can't you prise open his mouth and remove the offending items? What will happen if you push his cheek pouch in a bit?

Wallace · 14/01/2006 18:10

Looks like I was panicking about nothing! Just checked him and there is not nearly as big a bulge
