This is a bit of an embarrassing one but how can I dampen my guinea pig's... ardour?

We have 3 female guinea pigs and one neutered male guinea pig all in the same cage.

They generally live peacefully and happily together.

Tonight is a different story. Mr gpig is chirping, wiggling and strutting his stuff frantically, with very little pause in proceedings.

Is there a way to calm him down or do I just leave it to the girls to decide to welcome him or send him packing.

I've not had a mixed group myself, but I understand that both males and females, whether "tutored" or not, can get fruity from time to time and so long as they aren't causing damage to each other, you kind of need to draw the curtains and let them get on with it. I've heard if females are fed up with the attention of males (or other females,) they will make their views clear, often by peeing on the intrusive pig's face.

However, if the Vicar is coming for tea, try dunking the amorous rodent in a bath. He'll be too preoccupied with drying off and grooming to be interested in luurrve, at least for awhile. Good luck!

I hope that was a joke. Don't bath piggie to get him out his lusty mood. The facts are neutering does not rid boars of their sexual urges. Females come into season about every 16 days. A female that is not interested in mating makes it obvious to the thickest of males ie a good squirt of pee in the face.

Let them get on with it.

It's true that neutering won't change a boars personality or interest in sex.

I bath my pigs at least every couple months, so if they do seem to be getting persistently fruity (which can lead to arguments if one is not interested,) a bath is one way to diffuse the situation. They end up being distracted by grooming.

I probably should have clarified mine are indoors and bathing a pig kept outdoors would not be sensible in December.
