Have I accidently fed my piggies the equivalent of a class A narcotic?

Oh dear. They have both gone cracker-pig. Please tell me that sage isn't an intoxicated for guinea pigs? I was trimming back the herb garden and chucked the trimmings into their run where they were devoured within minutes and now this. They are running round and round doing lots of special piggie pogo jumps and squeaking madly. Eek.

Reassurance? Please?

I've never given mine sage but they go mad for parsley.Tried them on basil and apparantly coriander is okay (though I haven't given this to my pigs)

I'm seen those dried herby treat bags in P@H but no idea what's in them.

Are they just having a mad half hour?

(Mine burrow through the deep hay and pretend to be ghosts. Ooooh Haunted Hay)

SquigglePigs · 11/11/2011 19:20

Lol! Mine do the exact same thing for parsley, and a pretty close run thing for coriander! Never tried them on sage - will do now! Grin

Mine have had sage and are still fine and in rude health

FryingNemo · 11/11/2011 19:39

Thanks for your replies. I am reassured. They have calmed down now and are back inside chomping hay. Silly piggies.

They love lavender too although have never gone cracker-pig afterwards. Will see what they think of thyme tomorrow.

Mine ( now sadly departed) loved fennel. Don't think it made them bonkers though.

Does anyone grow grass for their indoor piggies BTW?

Haha gps LOVE all herbs. Sage is fine.

We called dry herb treats guinea pig crack for this very reason!

We have a very small garden, which we only use for growing grass for our indoor piggies. They love it.

I used to grow catmint/catnip for my (now RIP) female cat-she loved it and used to writhe about in it.

Wonder what effect it would have on 2 male GPs.

FryingNemo · 12/11/2011 20:56

Thyme went down well. Coriander rejected outright.

Coriander is crack here.
I have some dill and mint in fridge they are getting later....

My DCs know that GPs are eaten in their native South America (I bet they taste like chicken) I'm sure they think I am flavouring the GPs with basil and parsley Grin
