I'm waiting for my piggy to die...

just waiting for the phone call; but glad she is being so well cared for.

We took her to a vet recommended by the Cambridge Cavy Trust on Wed as we noticed she was not eating and not her chirpy self - drove 130 miles each way.

They found a tumour on her kidneys and her wee was full of blood so they gave her antibiotics, pain med and syringed fed her. Sadly it was not due to an infection, and she deteriorated.

They phoned about an hour ago to tell me she has slipped into a coma and will slip away very peacefully in the next couple of hours; but she is warm and comfy wrapped in vet bed and next to a radiator. Every now and then they give her a cuddle although she is no longer conscious, and the husband has taken her into bed with him now so she stays warm and loved till the end.

A lovely way to go!

awww thats is so sad but sweet of the dh

bibbitybobbitysantahat · 11/12/2010 19:04

I'm ever so sorry. Will you get to see her again after she's ... gone?

Bless your little piggy.

poppetsaplenty · 11/12/2010 19:28

Trinity It is really good of them - they were due to go out tonight but have cancelled their plans - until she has 'gone' as they do not want her to be alone.

bibbity we will go up tomorrow on a sober journey to bring her home. It is sad that I won't be in time to go up tonight and cuddle her when she passes - but at least the last thing she will know is being loved to the end.

She was a well loved piggy, and one of the sweetest we've every known. Very cuddly, naughty (very good at reconnaisance missions hurdling barriers to forbidden places like behind the tv) and lovely to the other pigs.

She was a poppet - and that was her name - Poppet

Thank you for your messages. I have had a little big cry and some wine and will go to bed early so can make the six hour round trip tomorrow to collect Poppet.

I have uploaded a pic of her to my profile - she is the tortie.

RIP Poppet, goodnight x

Goodbye Poppet - our oldest piggy went today as well - I will sob for Poppet too. Sad

silver73 · 26/12/2010 22:37

So sorry to hear about the loss of your piggies. Please try to take some comfort that you loved your pigs and looked after them.

Would you mind letting me know where the vet you used is? They sound wonderful and gp savy vets are very hard to find.

goodmanners · 29/12/2010 16:46

Also sorry about your piggies Sad. How old where they? Im hoping mine will live forever.
