Are my guinea pigs, daft or just still very young?

I have brought them in as it is cold and we have snow. I went out yesterday and bought a hanging chewy thing for them. They are biting their plastic hidey hole Hmm.

They are guinea pigs. They will eat the inside of their hutch instead of a thoughtfully-provided apple bough and if you give them a lovely cardboard box to sleep in, they will chew both sides diagonally from the bottom up until it overbalances and falls on their heads (our 4 year-olds achieved this recently).

Don't bother to buy anything special for them to chew; a cardboard tube from a kitchen roll stuffed with hay will probably provide more thrills than they can cope with.

They would swallow the cardboard though?? Is that okay?

Yes, it's fine as long as it's plain card - no ink or shiny finish.

Kitchen roll tube should be fine then, thanks.

Guinea pigs are lovely but dim so that's to be expected. Mine nibble everything they can get their mouths on!
