Son not paying rent

24yr old son renting a flat, has started using drugs he won’t tell me why, appears depressed and has tried to OD, I’ve only found this out via ex girlfriend. Son is unable to pay rent as has spent money on holiday, new car, tattoo, once he told me what was going on, we lent him £3000, as I could see he was struggling. Now he’s still using, refusing help, keeps pushing back on anything we try and offer is GP referral, find different cheaper rental, MH referral. Just don’t know what to do and I’m really worried about the payment for the flat as I’m guarantor for it. Any advice ??

When we lived with the horror of our son using drugs and all the awful impact on the family I found support from www.famanon.org.uk which is a 12 step programme for family/friends of somebody with a drug problem. They have a website, forum, helpline, literature, UK wide meetings.
We had to learn to detach with love, set boundaries. Addicts normally have to reach rock bottom, before they seek recovery.
Our son is now doing really well and living a normal life and so are we.

So sorry for what you're going through OP. My family went through similar with my sibling and I'd echo what PP says about having to reach rock bottom. As painful as it is, my parents helped them hover just above for years by bailing out etc but nothing clicked until rock bottom was reached and they wish they'd let it happen sooner.
