Hello have just recently found out that 18 year old DS has been experimenting with hard drugs, he has ADHD and allergy problems. We are working our way through the ADHD and so far going ok, and are starting to address the drugs issue, but he has booked a ‘lads’ weekend in Amsterdam, I appreciate he is now an adult. but is still living with us. We have always tried to be reasonable but with this new information I feel we can’t let him go. Any advice appreciated.

As he's an adult I'm wondering how you're going to stop him. How is he paying for drugs and his trip? If you are, then stop giving him money.

When you say experimenting, that is quite a normal thing for teens and young people to do. And the majority of people who do this do not become addicts or ruin their lives.
I'd be concerned if he was using heroin, as it's very easy to become physically addicted if you use too often. But unless he says he's having problems then you can't really make him stop.

If he's paying for the trip to Amsterdam then again he's an adult so he's going.
I'd say the fact he'll be with friends could hopefully mean safety in numbers. He'll probably be fine and have a good time. If he has a bad experience then maybe it will put him off going further into drug culture?
